Hi Guys.
I need some opinions on how to fit a winch.

The one option is to fit it permanent on the front bull bar. I got a wrap a round b/b from Swifty that has been modified to sit a bit higher.You remove the bottom plastic piece from the bumper and it increases your departure angle. I will probably let the guys from Gomad do this installation for me.

The other option I was thinking about was to make it mobile. Meaning that it wont be permanently fixed but I will keep it in the back and then "bolt" it on as I need it. Than I can use it on the back and front. Also to be very honest I am not going to use this a lot because I drive a lux
Have anyone done this?

George, only challenge with a back/front mobile fitment is you need current to make it run properly.

I've seen somebody wanting to show off his installation and the winch could not pull two slices of white bread apart from each other. There was insufficient current, he had to move his second battery to the back.

Hi Heinrich.My second battery is already at the back with 16mm cable so I dont think that is going to be a problem

I am also keen on the removable version. Accept for the added benefit that you can use it at the back, you also keep the weight less at the front. The current problem can be overcome with proper cables.

I just had a peek at my van. What if you utilise the tow ball. you have a bracket to your winch plate that can bolt on to where the tow ball(goose neck) fit and you have the same type of bracket in the front. You will probably need to enforce it at the back with supports to the chassis.

Don't think it would be wise to use the towball for any recoveries.

What I mean is you remove/unbolt the goose neck and then you bolt the winch to where the goosneck was.

Aaah... that should be fine as long as you strengthen it at back with extra support

I think i must visit the guys at Gomad to see if they can help me with this.

I am sure that they can.

That is a great idea george... that also means the winch will last longer as it is not exposed to the elements and water crossings...
