Bamboeshoek Mountain 4x4 Trails

Post by SYRON CONVERSIONS »

Bamboeshoek is actually a range of mountain that are found near a small town called Sterkstroom which is +- 70km from Queenstown, amongst these mountains lives a very friendly guy called Chris Bartlett, over the last six years our club The Queenstown 4x4 Off-Road Club has been visiting this area, on Chris's farm, he has two main 4x4 trails, depending on the time of the year, snow conditions these trails can be hair raising or just a little demanding but very scenic and they take you to the heighest point of this mountain range, from where many places in the distance can be seen, valleys, rivers, grasslands.

Chris has overnight accommodation, a very nice braai area, as well as inside kitchen and bar area, he also caters for Hunting visitors, there are many Bushmen Painting to be seen in the various caves that are scattered around in these mountains, if you are looking for a place to mellow out, enjoy some demanding 4x4ing, walking, Quadding or riding your bicycle or just looking for a place to get away from it all, then Bamboeshoek is the place to visit, please note the accommodation is self catering, but there is hot and cold water for the rooms in the bathrooms, and you can even camp at the camping area out below the one mountain, rather cool for this time of the year.

There is a thatched shack on the one mountain side where we have also stayed a few nights, but very rough but oh so very nice.

There are some very interesting rock water pools on the mountain top, where if you look carefully you can see small fish swimming in the water, but during the hot summer months these water pools dry up, thus what happens to the fish, but every year they are there. And they are not tadpoles from frogs.

Enjoy the pic's, will post some more.

Some of the guys in their 4x4's could not get up here, it was too steep, too wet and maybe they were scared.
