CKGR April 2012
Quick trip report for the CKGR (April 2012). Short and sweet
Just got back from a 10 day trip in the CKGR. The park is very dry at the moment and was quite a different experience from 2 years ago when we were rained out.
We headed up to Khama Rhino Sanctuary and stayed the night before entering the park through Matswere Gate. Rakops had fuel, Botswana “ultra city” We spent 2 nights at Leopard’s Pan and then went up and around thorough Passage Valley for a further 2 nights. From here i went to go see where i was stuck last time, and didnt feel so bad anymore as you can see plenty of people have had 'fun'. We then moved around south spending one night at Letiahau before visiting pipers Pan. Our last 2 nights were spent at Kori Campsite before heading out the same way and stopping off a Khama again.

Looks great! How was the sightings like?
And the road from rakops to matswere?
On our way to leopard pan sunday pan area for about 8 days leaving next friday.
What's the situation on disease outbreaks, and fruitflies?
Looking forward to the trip anyway

The park is dry at the moment so a lot of the game has moved off and you not getting hundreds of springbok/Gemsbok on the pans, but they are around. Lots of Fox's and Jackals. Heard lion, but only saw them once, but other people saw cheetah on Deception.

Fine, just dusty (pack a spare air filter for your way home ) On our way to leopard pan sunday pan area for about 8 days leaving next friday.
Nice area, the water hole is working and others saw lion there drinking and there was a giraffe kill last week, so they are around.
What's the situation on disease outbreaks, and fruitflies?
Boarder taking meat, tomatoes, baby marrows, banana's, etc. We just carried burger patties etc and then shopped in Serowe.
Looking forward to the trip anyway
Sure you are! enjoy

Re: CKGR April 2012
Thanx for the reply! Did they search the cars for meat and stuff. Is there no other vet fences from serowe up to rakops? Always a bummer with the meat. Heard that they might have a problem with precooked meat as well. Hope not I love my ribs

Re: CKGR April 2012
Yes they are searching and yes they are taking.
None of the check-points going north stopped us and many were not even manned.
Cooked food should not be a problem IMO

Re: CKGR April 2012
Want to tour from Khutse via Piper and Kori to Rapkops end of this month.
What is the chance to have my Hilux scraped beyond a "post trip polish-repair" in the CKGR?
How much diesel will my SC 3.0 D-4D 4X4 raider (no canopy or modifiction) need?
Do you need any spare parts like an airfilter?

Re: CKGR April 2012
How many days are you planning on taking to do Khutse to Pipers? it will take about 14hrs especially with the soft sand at the moment.
Your car will get a bit scratched, had mine polished after both trips and it looks fine, just the plastic bits show it a bit.
Not sure on the D4d consumption, but around Bape there is soft sand so expect the worst. I would take a spare air-filter and some tools especially if you are one vehicle (which is not recommended)

Re: CKGR April 2012
Albertus, which dates are you travelling as we'll also be doing pretty much the same route early June?
