Hello!
This is not much of a trip report, but some useful route information from our Mozambique trip 03/10 - 12/10.
We went up to Inhambane for a wedding and then spent 6 nights in Chidenguele. I also got the opportunity do drive on a private beach and put the Hilux to some good use!
We decided to bypass Maputo with it's well known congestion and "fine, without receipt" traffic officials! The route took us on the dirt road between Moamba and Magude. For the inbound leg, we went along the "Southern" dirt road which is slightly shorter than the "Northern" dirt road (see attachment).
The Southern dirt road is currently undergoing some maintenance, but overall not too bad, however, the Northern dirt road is a lot better and somewhat quicker, although slightly longer, which we took on the outbound leg.
We were only pulled over once on the entire trip for a driver's licence check, and that was it - rather lucky I'd say!
And not to forget, some pictures for the Lux having a good holiday!
Cheers!!

It did indeed, although the Land Cruiser was not part of our group, it just happened to drive by at the time the pic was taken! We did however have a FJ Cruiser in the group! So proudly Toyota all the way!

Thanks Stuart, that sounds like a super trip! I will be driving a similar route in two weeks time and, although I have used the shortcut, I was never aware of the second route to the north. Is it easy enough to find from both the Moamba side and from the Xinavane side? Your guidance would be much appreciated.

Martin

Hi Martin,
Yes, it's very easy to follow the Northern route from both sides.
From the Moamba side you get a fork in the road. The road to the left is the Northern route. You'll see a "checkpoint" on the road just after the fork (30m or so). [S25 33.728 E32 15.345]
From the EN1-Magude side: Once off the EN1 and heading towards Magude, you'll pass a sugar factory. After approx 23km you'll see a bridge to your right, you'll be crossing that bridge (single lane with train tracks) [S25 01.984 E32 39.352]. From Magude, you'll drive approx 8km where the road has a turning to the left [S24 59.829 E32 34.648], follow the road to the left. From here on it's fairly straight forward to Moamba.
I have attached the Mapsource file, hope this helps!
Cheers!
