Occasional Flooding

Post by pduminy »

It seems like one doesn't have to go far these days to find water to play in...

I took these photos just now when I went to pick up my daughter from Zwartkop High School in Centurion.
The Hennops River is in flood and Centurion traffic is in chaos.

Seems as though you guys up north had a serious amount of rain. It has been pretty constant here, but nothing as dramatic as up there...

What fuddles my mind is in that video you'll see the traffic lights are still working fine, eve though they are waist deep in flood water. But lights in JHB go out in a light drizzle...

Augrabies Falls National Park waterfalls expected to reach record high since 2011

South African National Parks (SANParks) is again expecting visitors to flock to Augrabies Falls National Park (ANP) near Upington in the Northern Cape as water levels are expected to reach a three year high. The Orange River will be in full force and with water flowing at 850 cubic metres per second.

It will be worthwhile for visitors to see the Waterfall during the week of 30 March to 6 April 2014 as a peak of 980 cubic metres per second is expected which is the highest since 2011. The previous high that was expected last week was 820 cubic metres per second. Visitors are encouraged to come witness the power of nature and hear the amazing roar of the waterfall.
