Re: Springbok-Lekkersing-Luderitz-Sossusvlei-Walvis-huis toe

Re: Springbok-Lekkersing-Luderitz-Sossusvlei-Walvis-huis toe
.......so anyway with all the listenin, bookings and planning along came the day for departure.
Day one started nice and early.9:00 am
Got off to a good start and enroute to Springbok, our first stop and sleep night one. What a road with 12 stop goes!!!!!!!
Well all good as we had lunch at Clan William dam, that shop has gone to Smithers. The dam was nice and full thou. Onwards toward Springbok.
Well road was as exciting as you can imagine with the road works and all.
Arriving in Springbok, we start looking for our accomodation. Well never ever ever trust direction given via email. Somehow it was thought Cape Town was on the other side of Springbok towards noordoewer as we almost ended up in Okiep.
Traced back our steps and phone the owner of the lodge, got the correct directions and we arrive at the lodge about 10km before Springbok coming from Cape Town. Imagine my frustration...........
Passing Springbok and circling for what felt like hours.
But what a stunning beautiful lodge, Springboks running wild around the lodge and the friendliest staff, brother and sister team, at the lodge. Biesjesfontein, a must stop if you need a fresh start for the next stage of a trip. As it was for us.
For those rich and famous around on the forum, they have the only helipad around.
DAY2
Started early and we packed up and loaded the vans again, phoned and sms'ed a certain Fortuner to find out where they are, as they also were enroute to Namib. They left that morning 3ish......... YOH!!!
To my surprise, with all the roadworks etc, they manage to catch up. While we finish our breakfast at the lodge, Dirk and kie had theirs at the Springbok Wimpy.
So the 2 luxes move as they can not out run that V6, so just after Steinkopf the Hovings caught up.
Its about halfway between Steinkopf and the sea that the road to Eksteenfontein turns off to your right, a gravel road non the less. But we did not take that one, we carried on to the next one about 5km further, Lekkersing here we come.
All 3 vehicles stopped as we need to deflate tyres for the gravel road that will take us to Sendelingsdrift border crossing. Everyone had there last leg stretch before hitting the gravel. 1.2 Bar for the 2 luxes and 1,5 for the tuna, pretty sure he wishes he did the 1,2 bar too
A very well maintained road towards Lekkersing, that said i'm also pretty sure Lekkersing is the only "dorp" in that area that will have paved road........wonder why?
But after the tour leader got confused by the voices on the Garmin we eventually find the correct road via means of the old traditional paper map .
Well just as i thought that hopefully the road to Sendelingdrift will be the same as till Lekkersing, no not to be
Sinkplaat se m o e r. Bits of rough gravel but still very driveable doing most of the road at 80-90km per hour, feeling slightly bad for the following troops, as its lots and lots of fine dust hanging for extended periods as no wind at all to take away the dust for visibility, luckily all in contact with the radios.
Towards to mining villages the roads tend to be better again and we arrive safely at the border crossing and pontoon crossing. No hassle customs and in 30min we were across the mighty orange. Waiting for Dirk and trailor to cross and we carry on till Namibia border control. Paid road levies and all and all we head towards Rosh Pinah for lunch and the home for the very tired, i presume, Hoving family for the night.
The Binedells depart after a little shopping and lunch for Luderitz. A very very dusty road from Rosh Pinah with the mines fine dust and strong winds, tar road but still looked like gravel with the dust hanging al over. We oush hard as we wanted to be in Luderitz before dark.
We briefly stop in Aus for a break and carry on past the Horses etc offered along the road. Beautiful sightings of Oryx, of sommer net Gemsbok. Passing all the sweet nothings for miles and miles. Reaching our next stay at Shark Island cottages.

Re: Springbok-Lekkersing-Luderitz-Sossusvlei-Walvis-huis toe
Day 3
Still in Luderitz and we went to Diaz point, lekker cold ones available there with a nice view too. We did more sight seeing on this day, including getting blown away at Kolmanhuppe.
We did all that we can and retired to the self catering cottages on Shark Island. Opening the Olof bergh and started a fire for a quick braai. Wind was stil blowing and we just checked on the fire now and then to make sure it has not burnt out. What a lekker braai it was indeed, much needed protein.
Day 4
Another visit to Diaz point and some more in town Sight seeing, eg the Lutheran church the bog mansion etc etc. relatively earlier retired to bed for the haul to Sossusvlei the next day.
Day 5
Got up and packed both vehicles and check all in order and fuel filled up. Took the road again via the horses and Aus, in Aus we had a congestion of per portion for fuel but we managed to work through there quickly, want as jy kan kan jy .
to be continued shortly(+/- 13 hrs)

Re: Springbok-Lekkersing-Luderitz-Sossusvlei-Walvis-huis toe
Dag 6
Volgens my weer n besondere lekker grond pad, maar dis maar net my opinie. Vining n paar stoppe vir fotos, onder andere by die Tropic of Capricorn.

Tertius, Thanx for sharing your experience with the rest of us...
It would have been better if you had completed the trip report so that we could see where some of the photos were taken. Your efforts though are still applauded.
