We have been planning a trip for a while now.
Just the guys.
Vehicles:
2012 3.0 D4D Tuna 4x4 Auto - 3 passengers and pulling a trailer
2006 3.0 D4D Tuna 4x4 Manual - 4 passengers
I left GP on Wednesday evening and drove to my folks in Mooi River. There are now average speed cameras all the way from Joburg to Durban. It's Really boring driving at 125kph all the way. :alvarin:
Met the other Tuna in Durban and we left around 9:15am. Stopped in Shelly beach for breakfast and we were then on our way.
Once you pass the Wild Coast Sun the R61 gets hectic. The road surface is not terrible. There are some potholes (some fairly large ones too) but its the blind bends and animals strolling onto the roads that are the problem. Oh, the other thing is the drivers who overtake on blind corners and hills. Some crazy mofo's
We counted 10 dead dogs on the way to PSJ and we came close to adding one more to that count.
Here some pics of the scenery:
Then a quick leg stretch
Stopped to check the view just before heading down into PSJ
View of the river:
Arrival time:
Around 3:30pm
We headed straight for the river mouth to check it out
We stayed at Silaka Nature Reserve
Accommodation cost: R790 per 4 sleeper chalet per night (self catering)
Tel: 043 701 9600
Last I was there was about 15 years ago. I must say the units are Much better than they were before. They were revamped recently.
However, I remember before there used to be Zebra and buck walking around. This time there were nothing at all.
Now that the responsibility of getting everyone there safe was over it was time for some of these.
Its difficult to get anywhere on the beach in PSJ as you have to navigate the rocks.
A fire on the beach! Awesome!
We made it in the braai stand so as to not mess up the place.
With regards to fishing, the tides were not in our favour. Low tide was at 8am and around 8pm.
So early morning fishing saw us at a receding tide.
We didnt catch anything at all.
So, it was time for more of this:
So wish i were back here now
i managed to save this guy from drowning
He was safely released to go about his business
A view of the chalets
Early morning fishing at Poenskop
Some awesome views
On the way back home
Total distance covered from Joburg to PSJ and back = +-1900kms

That you must, Eric! Very scenic area, even though the town and accommodations are now a shadow of their former state. Just be careful when ordering muffins or brownies!Family_Dog wrote:Lovely trip, that is one place that I have just never been to. Must make a plan sometime.

This is typical for the region! There are some potholes (some fairly large ones too) but its the blind bends and animals strolling onto the roads that are the problem. Oh, the other thing is the drivers who overtake on blind corners and hills.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!
