Rhino madness
So this weekend myself and the missus ventured to a farm in an undisclosed location in the middle of somewhere and nowhere about a number of hours from the place I live, to visit family and obviously kuier.
Was a great weekend with very hot weather, great company, many beers and much whisky. Also, rhino!
Some pics below detailing the vastness of this operation. And the very REAL poaching situation. On Saturday night a few (two) shots were heard. The next morning we went on a scout mission to check the animals. And very sadly, one cow (white) was killed and her friend was injured and limping badly.
Now just to make a point, these rhino's horns are 'trimmed' to deter poaching and these buggers still Flippen do it! They didn't get away with anything either, killed a rhino for nothing... Makes me so mad and sad! To watch the dead rhino's buddy relentlessly stand by the carcass, was saddening immensely.
But other than my rant, some more festive pics of the weekend will follow suit

There were plenty newborns and one had even been born on Sunday morning. Was all wobbly and had the women singing their "Aaaw cute" tune.

It was brilliant! Location secrecy due to volatility of the rhino situation.4x4BEES wrote:The middle of nowhere looks like an awesome place to be

Great pics and great to see that there are farms breading them to get the numbers up. The farm should have a large pack of dogs trained to run toward the gun shots and bite the poachers 'in the pants' and bring back some new golf balls to smack around for every rhino poached..

Re: Rhino madness
Ya agreed! They have a big anti poaching unit, but with the the amount of ground to cover, there will always be risk associated. Interesting fact, from time of shot to full removal of horn is around 2-2:30 min. That's how quick these guys operate :evil:Rusti wrote:Great pics and great to see that there are farms breading them to get the numbers up. Re: Rhino madness
A sad state of affairs indeed, this rhino poaching! :x :x
Nice to see the numbers on that farm and of course the 'little' ones .... just have to wonder how long it will last - they even take out the trimmed rhino for the base root of the horn, so that's not much of a deterrent any more.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Yeah they say the base can be up to two kilos depending on the thickness so it is still attractive to poachers.
