Bots/Namibia December 2014 Trip Report

Welcome back everyone!

Can not believe is is over

, but 2015 will be bigger and better!!!!

Here is our trip report, we left home on the 13th December, first stop was Khama Rhino Sanctuary just one night and then up to Audi Camp in Maun for the 2nd night, up to here the road was not bad but that changed very fast! We then traveled on to Ngepi Camp via Mohembo border post, and that A35 road from Sehithwa to Mohembo was very bad with big potholes and sometimes no tar. We also had a very big rain storm on this stretch, so we had to wait is out as we could not see anything :?

We had to do a quick roadside repair to the trailer as we entered Bwabwata Nationa Park, the axle came loose and shifted to the one side causing one tire to rub against the chassis.

Ja daar bo by Cunene was dit so 37 gewees, maar solank die bier koud is is als reg

So still at Ngepi, we met up with some local guys that worked at the lodge, had a couple of drinks and the next moment one of the guys mentioned there is a 1meter crock in a dam that they had to remove, so off we went crock hunting @ 1:00 in the morning...

There's a vicious man-eating croc in the dam and you guys go paddling in the water in the dark hours of the night?

That really looked beautiful and I loved the sense of humor on some of the signs

Croc hunting at 01:00 is probably not fueled by beer, but by BRANNAS

Sorry for the slow progress on the trip report, I am the only one in office

Here is that last ones of Ngepi, the showers is quite something.

I will definitely give Ngepi 10 out of 10, the people is very friendly and they have a very nice setup

And so it was time to move on, we hit the road to Ruakana, it was a long day so we checked in at Ruacana Eha Lodge for the night, and on to the falls,

Apparently they had a fault on one of the turbines so they we got to see the falls in flood.

From Ruacana Falls we attempted to go up to Kunene River lodge and up to Epupa Falls via the Cunene 4wd trail but the rain made it impossible. We could not even make it to Kunene River Lodge and ended up turning around and settling in at another lodge, I forgot the name but will find it.

Wayne, ons was ook by Ngepi. Dit is n awesome camp, wens ek kon daar langer bly. Neil en ek het self lekker gekuier saam met Shaun en sy vrou. Sal definitief weer soon toe gaan.

The next day we moved on, we where heading to Torra Bay

, so down to Opuwo to get supplies, and then we got on to the C43 gravel road that would take us through Otjomatemba Pass, Palmwag and into Skeleton Coast National Park via Springbokwasser Gate. Here I lost a tire with a sidewall cut

I really enjoyed Torra Bay, we where there for 4 nights. They have a well stocked shop, cellphone reception, fresh water, a bar

and good ablution facilities.

BUT one thing I did not know is that everyone there has their own generator, and they run it from 7am to 11pm

But then again it is a fishing camp that only opens for 2 months in a year, so they guys are very serious fishermen with fridges running. So the solution was to go fishing and so you do not hear the gennies.

So after our stay at Torra we headed down to Swakop for a couple of days, we managed to find a camping spot at Tiger Reef.

Ok hier gaan ons weer, steeds in Swakop.

See was koud maar ek sien hom seker net 1 keer 'n jaar so ons moes vir 'n swem gaan

Nog so paar van Swakop, daarna het ons na Walvisbaai gery om op 'n boot uit tek gaan vir die oggend, en toe by duin 7 'n bier gaan drink, hulle het op die dag klomp 4x4's daar gehaad en leker speelgoed.
