A-Frame Questions
Hi
Does anyone have any advice on towing a vehicle with an A-Frame, or any advice on building an A-Frame?
Should or could the towed vehicle's wheel alignment be adjusted slightly to track better?
The vehicle would be towed behind a motor-home.
Thanks

Re: A-Frame Questions
The longer the a-frame the more stable. Make sure you make descent mounting points.
I could be wrong but with slight toe in it should run straighter.

Re: A-Frame Questions
before we had 4x4s we used to tow a beech buggy behind a combi to Sodwana bay
think it was made of stainless steel angle iron
there is one thing to be carefull about, that vehicle being towed does not help with stopping
what you going to tow?

Re: A-Frame Questions
Have been thinking about A-frames the last few days aswell.
My question is: What will the legal implications be regarding weight, braked axle, etc???

A 4x4 is merely a machine that enables you to get stuck further away from civilization.

long list of legal implicationsThabogrobler wrote:Have been thinking about A-frames the last few days aswell.

1. when you brake the car being towed brake light will not work, unless wired into the tow vehicle or a plate with lights is attached that incorporates a chevron board
as for the brakes, the rules that applies to a trailer also apply, with regards to weight and brakes

Re: A-Frame Questions
Will tow an IFS Raised Body Hilux, behind a 6m long motor-home built on a Mercedes truck chassis.
I've started on the A-frame, will post pics when I'm done.

Sure, thought about the chevron board aswell, my bigger concern is the weight implications.kfxnando wrote:long list of legal implicationsThabogrobler wrote:Have been thinking about A-frames the last few days aswell.

Re: A-Frame Questions
this is where things get complicated and expensive
the law say that any thing over 750kg must have brakes
regardless of what the law say,for ones own safety any thing seeing towed should have brakes
options
modify the vehicle being towed, and the tow vehicle's brakes to get both brakes to work together,
witch I am totaly against
or have an electric brake system fitted to the vehicle being towed, not cheap
or put that other vehicle on a car trailer
either way, its a pain and not cheap
good luck

So Ben,
How well does your design work?
It certainly looks brilliant!
