Aluminium stockist around Jo'burg

Post by Donkey »

Hii guys, where around Jozi can I find some 25mm x 25mm Alu tubing and checkered plate for a project? Also a place that'll be able to laser cut the plate for me.

You may also try Non Ferrous Metals...also in the South of JHB. They stock everything aluminium!! They will do straight cuts for you; unfortumately no complicated profile cutting.

I also have 2 full sheets perforated alu plate that I wanted to use for my project (which I will no longer use)...if you are interested....

There's a place in Germiston that sells alu sheets much cheaper than I could find elsewhere
in gauteng - called KMG (sure yellow pages/internet will give contact details).
Got 2 sheets hi-brite treadplate (think it was 1,6mm or so) for R850.
Sheet size12 x 2,4m
Used it to clad my industrial strength canopy.
Don't know if the stock alu tubing though
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

Basically this is a kitchen project, that will be mounted below my RTT, in the space above the load bin. It is lockable, the door opens upwards, below a LED module is mounted, and is held up by a single shock (which is more than enough). The bottom slides out all the way (slides were sourced from 4x4Direct, including hinges, shock mounts, 3 way connect-it fittings)

Looking good Tumelo!! Now just cut the handle on the kettle and pop rivot it in order to allow it to fold flat and it will fit :)

You don't by any chance still have the little plastic feet that came with the stove - broke one on mine.....

Donkey that looks lekker, I would like to see the final product. I see you put the rails in "flat" rather than "upright" how is the support when fully extended.

also I have about 20 gabriel gas shocks I will give you 2 for your door extended they are about 200mm

The rails are rated 60kg if I'm right and the whole unit does not even weigh 30kg when loaded like that, will confirm support and other details when installed, I also need to make a plan to "lock" the slide tray in the open position so that it does not close itself when I'm cooking or parked on a slight angle for some reason.

Thank you for your offer about the shocks, will need them for future projects, please put a price to them, and if you're doing the year end GTG will gwt them then

I stick a 5mm rod into one of the slide's slots to keep it in the open position.
