Load tray storage build

Post by Thelynxeffect »

So today I started my (basic) load tray storage build, I got some guys at the side of the road to do the welding for me as engineering firms are in short supply where I am located.

Image

I have used 1" steel square bar, which is much lighter than I expected, for the frame, that in turn will support 9mm block board on the deck which I will cover with rubber matting.

Image

You will notice that the storage is in three areas, this should allow it to be modular should the need arise to carry a tall load. I have just finished priming the steelwork and have ordered some full extension drawer slides for the front two boxes, they are only 650mm deep but I think it still warrants drawers.

Tomorrow I shall cut the wood and mount it to the frame.

Not sure how your tray sitting in the back will be accessed even with sliders? :?

But good luck with it and prove me wrong.

Access to the back box will be through a hinged lid on the top, it will contain a water tank and battery and bed rolls so will not be opened too often, because I wanted a modular system I had to sacrifice easy access to the back box.

Also the longest sliders I can get delivered here would be 900mm, so they wouldn't be long enough anyway.

I like the modular approach and will certainly keep an eye on your progress Henry. What ideas do you have for securing the various modules and for easy removal from the load bin?

I am thinking about slotted rails mounted to the load tray base so I could re-configure as required, it seems the most adaptable solution, also means I can secure heavy loads in the tray if I also get some load rings that slot in.

Just need to see if I can find any here in Nanyuki.

After abandoning my previous build I have started a new design.

Test fitting after mock up

After glueing and sealing, ready for fitting out.

It will have one large drawer on full extension 1300mm runners, a small vertical drawer on the right for my booze cabin at and a battery box, inverter and air pump at the back behind the fridge .
