I take it that this is a "wing" type awning. Not bad for a DIY project, but I think that you're going to find it a bit bulky. The commercially manufactured ones offset the hinges so that it's quite a bit more compact when it folds up, but I'm sure that you're saving a fair pocket of change in doing it yourself.

Let's see how it looks / works once you have it fitted. :winkx:

Hello Ismail, keeping an eye on you. Want also built me a one. That black hinges, is it plastic and where you get it. Would like use it for my coming soon awning when my RTT project is completed. Thanks

Hi guys, sorry for no updates,
Its back to the drawing board with this one or the appilcation which I am trying to achieve
My awning design was to use the same concept of the oztent foxawning and yes my frame/ mechanism is working BUT what i noted that the arms is mearly a folding mechanism as to which the oztent unit is. It still needs poles to be stablised. And from research the oztent is not be be used in severe conditions either, which for me is pointless.
especially since setting up is similiar to my current awning.

My 380g ripstop awning can withstand up to 40km winds and heavy rains no problem. (canvas on a rail and 2 poles with 4 guy ropes)

Then I had a look at the alucab and 4x4direct awning, this is a serious structure both of them, and looks as if it can with stand serious conditions but at more cost.

So at the moment im two minded in redesigning the frame and welding (some serious engineering) etc or just have another awning made for the rear of my trailer the same as my current one with zips so that i can join the 2 awnings and still create a "270" cover area. At this stage i will prob go the later for its cheaper and the setup does work for me.

Ismail, don't give up, go the extra mile, re-in force your frame and then give us a shout and we will see what we can do for you, first thing is we will use 400g RipStop and then sleeve the poles in, no Velcro. Remember you can still run a rope from the edge of the awning down to either a rim or a bumper to stabilize the wing.

Ismail, just a thought ...... You already have your awning ribs in a straight row and thus lying very flat. You have enough space next to each of your existing poles, so instead of carrying loose poles for support, you could bolt them on at the ends of the ribs so that they lie next to each rib when folded up (perhaps with a clip to hold them) and just swivel them down when deployed. A small hook at that pivot point will permit you to fit a guy-rope if required.

Something like this .......
