SFA roof console

Post by niclemaitre »

Some time ago I decided to build a roof console for Rooies because there is no where to put anything except the cubby hole on the passenger side. I also acquired a budget 7" tablet that I could use for navigation and music and wanted somewhere to mount it that was out of sight so it could be left in the car. It would also get the VHF radio off the floor and its speaker out of the passenger footwell

Left over 2mm aluminium sheet from my canopy was the basic material with 2mm closed cell foam glued over that and grey vinyl over the foam.

Laying out the plans and marking the bends. Bent the sheet using an angle iron as a form and clamping a wooden block to the edge with long clamps to give leverage

Folded and cut. Make the cuts AFTER folding as I learnt the hard way

The tablet, 2 for R1000 at incredible connection

Covered with foam and vinyl

The hinged panel for the tablet. The hinges are horrendously ugly but finding 2 position hinges (or detent hinges) is very difficult unless you buy 200...

Mounted. This was a bit of a fight as the wiring all has to pass through the front bracket

Happy trails
