I did a search on 4x4ing in Colesberg and there is a few farms .... that indicate 4x4 routes but they don't provide detail on the trail. We will have to call them when to get the details.

I also did a search for the area and there is definitely mention of trails but as you say not much detail is given. We should also consider Middelburg (Eastern Cape) it is close to Colesburg and there is also 4x4 trails there but again not to much detail is available online.

Wade I must admit that does seem like an awesome venue  the only problem is its rather far for the CT Guys and as far as I can tell majority of the forum members are from CT area so I dont think many of them will put a vote for here :(
But I sure would like to go there sometime 8)

I agree Tristan

It is an extra 391km for the CPT guys. :?

Has anybody been able to pick up any 4x4 activities around the Colsberg area? I don't mind this event being hosted at Safari, I mean it's only 250km from Bloem. I'll even be quite happy to do some reccee work around the area....... but in my eyes, for this venue to become a reality it has to offer some form of 4x4 trail.

I'm quite passionate about this. So if I may quote.....
4x4ing is a passion that has has brought this forum together, and so too, has been the instigating factor in organising a national GTG. Although I'd love to meet all you guys, I'd prefer to do this on "our own ground" 4x4ing........

Yes, one would save on fuel costs, traveling in a car, but what would we talk about?

The passion that has built this forum, is the same catalyst needed for a great weekend. I just don't think it would be the same, let alone worth while for most, to foot the fuel bill, without 4x4ing and getting to some of the splendid "far out" place our country has to offer. That is after all why we've invested in our 4x4's. Not?

The object of a GTG, is to share in our passion, share in our experiences, invest in a hard days 4x4ing, coming back to a campfire and reminiscing on great day of fun with a couple of cold frosties, and then tackling the long pull home, slightly depressed that such a great weekend has come to and end, but with renewed energy, and a longing for the time to pass..... and the next outing into the great outdoors.
I've also updated the distance logs for the more "popular" destinations.

Wade I agree with you 100%  There definitely has to be some 4x4 trails for us to enjoy.
As we mentioned earlier there are definitely 4x4 trails in that area but there just isn't much detail listed on the internet. Im sure after a few people in the area have been informed what we are trying to do we will start to get the info we need :D

Considering that there'll be Spouses and kids too, I'm favouring the Safari Park, Outshoorn coming in a close 2nd.

Niel,

I would tentatively be there if it is at Safari Park, but pending a final decision closer to the time. I need to find an active "Granny sitter" for the period. The one I normally use for short periods has no driver's licence etc, and I cannot leave 96 y/o gran alone for longer than a day or so with the normal granny sitter.

Niel, he has no option but to come, even if he has to hitch hike all the way down, you must remember his Landy has to be put on a trailer and that is another story. He can even wear his old army uniform and wear that white band and people will think he is in the army and give him a lift.

Niel great stuff!!!!! We also need to find out the following about Colsberg.

Just some thoughts and ideas, guys and Ladies please add yours as well.

Mechanical Workshops for repairs
Times that the service station is open for fuel.
First Aid / Hospitals, Doctor/ Dentist Clinics (we all get sick).
What radio's will people be using in their vehicle's and if so, what type and frequency and range?
Chance for FD to make some extra bucks here
Map showing directions to the venue from the various directions as you enter this stad.

Late comers will be fined
Will we have Safety Officers? If so who and how many?

Items that each driver has to carry in his or her vehicle, recovery equipment, fire extinguisher, first aid box.
Payments of fees, deposits to be paid, who will handle this?
Sponsorship for Lucky Draw prizes (my letter to Sasol was received, but have not heard anything more from them as yet).
Will we be raising funds from this event for any percific reason, group or maybe The NSRI or whatever.

What I think is really important at the moment is that we get a booking even it is just a provisional booking for now
Easter weekend is a very busy time and the number of people on the list for this GTG is already going to be quite a trick to accommodate in one place
For once Im not speaking out of ignorance I used to work in the tourism industry and this type of event would usually be booked at least a year in advance.

I dont see any voting going on but colesburg seems to be the best option for the majority.
In my opinion we need to settle on a venue pretty soon or else this event is not going to happen :|

I agree with you Tristan.

Niel, maybe give it the weekend still, for names and votes.
On Monday, book the winning venue.

We're not going to get a large booking for much longer. Like Tristan said, easter is peak time.

If I do snore it doesn't bother me because Im sleeping
Im not fussy at all were I sleep, I have on some occasions not even bothered to use a tent (us off the beaten track people are tougher than the city folk  )
If working on a set budget its often better to camp because you can spend the extra money on important things like beer 8)

Are you going to bring that 44 with you :?: we might need it those up country people scare me

Tristan the only thing that worries me is their afrikaanse, I saw a book just now on Bid or Buy it said, how to understand the afrikaanse launguage and people

I suppose we cannot bring our "Jacks" two males would end up fighting.

p/s Big Balls is going again, just got to sort out the twin shifter gear lever covers on the floor, drove it around the garden this evening, had a few friends around for a braai.

I think there are allot more people who want to attend than are on the list  wait and see as soon as a venue is confirmed the true numbers of who will be attending will start to happen
Also I think lots of people cant dedicate themselves so far in advance.

Simon you can bring Scotty along, my chap can stay at home and look after his pack of female dushaunts
