Thanks manne. Dit was nou sommer 'n baie lekker dag.

Thanks to all you guys who came along!! You made the day a success, and you made the Hilux4x4 Club proud. You co-operation and behaviour sets an example to many others out there. You may pat yourselves on the back!!
The trail was a lot of fun, and got rough(ish) towards the end, and it was verryhot!! And once we got to the end a cold one went down well. Here's a few quick picks for your enjoyment..
Awaiting a full trip report from Ciske!!

Hey Guys, Thanks a ton for an awesome day. Ciske thanks for all your organizing and for doing such a great job of leading us yesterday..... Petrus once again for being the 'go to guy' always willing to assist and jumping in to help guide us all through the tough sections. Thys, Dirk, Ali, Stephan and all the others I met for the first time on the trail it was loads of adrenalin pumping fun...

Did'nt get many photo's because was pretty focused on driving the trail and needed all my focus most of the time. Think some of the others got some great shots but this is my 10cents worth....
The vehicles that did the trail .. Dirk got a photo of my hilux on one of the obstacles
The final descent at the end of the trail..... Mmmm.. rather challenging very loose boulders and rocks.... slide, drive down from the top.... quite a challenging trail

Re: 28th Jan. WC Dayouting - Babylonstoren 4x4
OOpps almost forgot to thank the very competent 4x4 specialist Mr. Hoppy.... My Hilux drove like a dream over the trail, in spite of my failed attempt to roll her down the last boulder strewn rocky section... that was a close slide, but I think that there were a few other 'ampers'....
Ground clearance was excellent and the wheel travel meant I spent more time with all 4 or most of the wheels on the ground at the same time... really totally different drive yesterday.... Thanks Allan

Asseblief.

Re: 28th Jan. WC Dayouting - Babylonstoren 4x4
Okay, seeing as there is no real trip report coming, here goes... We all met at the designated rendezvouz on time, a first for Cape Town!! So things were on track right from the start.
With Gysie in the lead, and Sidekick at the tail we safely arrived at BT after traveling over some badly corrugated dirt roads. The Admin took a little while, but Thys Basson (the trail owner) is a very talkative and friendly guy and made us feel right at home. After Gysie did the pre-trail driver briefing speech, we were ready to rock and roll.
We drove the short distance to the chalets for the first GPS (gougou piepie stoppie) stop, and after a short while we set off. It was still quite early and the temperature was already soaring. It was going to be a HOT day, with no breeze to talk of and very little in the form of shade along the trail.
The first section of the trail was pretty normal rocky stuff and then we arrived at the teeter-totter. Everybody had a chance to play on the see-saw, to try and balance their vehicles in the middle, some with more success than others. It was great fun. From there we went down a steep hill which was badly eroded, and up again on the other side of the valley to the 2nd playpen. Here there were some serious cross axles and the guys could try out their suspensions in a controled environment. Impressive stuff.! This is also the only place where I took some photographs.
Now we had to traverse the valley again from the opposite side, and the erosion gulleys at the bottom tricked Ciske up badly. Soon we were all gathered at the POI and with some help from the guys Ciske spotted the right line and we all made it through there with no further problems. We all made it to the top in one piece, and before long we made it to a steep little rocky hill. Oh! My! Goodness!! Are we going over that? (Steph and Blondie in the back seat, simultaneously, like a well rehearsed duet). Dirk just said "Keep left, there is some shade there"...
The uphill was okay, not too challenging, but then came the downhill on the other side. Steeper and more treacherous than Takbok's (in)famous downhill, with much tighter twist and turns and some serious loose rocks. We all managed to get down the hill, at times sliding and becoming passengers behind the wheel. The chatter on the radios was something to behold!!
Once at the bottom Ciske and the front runners lit the braai fires in the lapa and cracked open the first cold ones. A bit unfair, as the rest of the group was still struggling to get down, with Petou packing rocks and directing us all down.
It was great to see the new faces, and also some familiar ones that were out of circulation for a while! Corne Gifkoek with his white D4D Vigo, really gave the running boards a workout, while Jonno (Toybox) with his awesome green machine crawled over everything with ease, just blipping the throttle now and then to make the Lexus roar.
Not to be left out Johan also came along and did the seemingly impossible with his standard Luxie, flexing over the cross-axles like a pro. Ali and his lucky red bakkie also had a good time, and he really tried to make the Hilux look like a koeksister.
Gysie and Bees (who recently upgraded from 4x2 to 4x4) tried out their newly found V6 powerhouses with some measure of success. Gysie ended up minus 2 rear mudflaps, and with a little "battle scar" on the left rear, and Bees ended up with a scew bash plate.
Auntie Val in her GI Jane Hilux (now with OME suspension and black bumper with rated recovery hooks) was also very impressive as always, showing some of the younger ouens a thing or 2! Petrus (Petou) also attended, albeit in a Pajero with his friend Burger. Why he left the Fortuner at home is still a secret, maybe with some peer pressure he will reveal it all. :wink2: :wink2:
Hoppy and Luxter arrived a little late as he had some business to attend to in the morning. They arrived just as we completed the trail and everybody had a cold drink in hand. Always ready for action, Allan fired Luxter up and took on the last death defying downhill we all are still having nightmares over. From the bottom UP! With lots of revving, and with all axles locked he made it to the top in a cloud of dust. Well done!
Stephan Sidekick was having all out fun, even attempting to copy Hoppy's outstanding little run up the rock strewn downhill, but not making it all the way up. Well done to him for trying though!
Carlo Voetsek attended in hie 7MGE Hilux, and let me drive it over the cross axles a bit. Verry verry nice! but I am over that now. When we started it up, and heard the engine, I looked at Blondie and said, we must buy this (it is for sale by the way). She agreed immediately. So it seemed like there was another SFA Hilux on our horizon. This SFA is really luxurious inside, full leather BMW 3-series seats, well looked after and clean enough so you can eat off the floor! End of the story is... it is still for sale. We decided against buying it. We're moving on, been there done that...
I attended in my Blue Limo, the long flat Ford Ranger with air-con (whoo-hoo), 30" road tyres, stock suspension, and all of 80kw's of raw diesel power with 300000km's on the clock. After checking out Gifkoek, Gysie and Bees in their Vigo's I was very glad I chose to come with the Ford. I would have cried real tears if I have to lose a mud flap or dent a running board the way those guys went on. Me thinks a little bit of armour will have to be applied in the right places to lessen the damage before I take the Vigo on a trail such as that one. Sorry guys, but for now, the Blue Limo is going to become a regular feature on the trails around the Western Cape.
To everybody who attended the event, the Hilux4x4 Club is proud of you all. It was a fantastic day, and the cameraderie and team spirit was outstanding. I'll go to war with you lot!! Petrus deserves a special word of thanks for doing point duty at all the obstacles, making sure we all got "home" safely. And then to Gysie, thanks for organising, and doing duty up front, you did great!! Till we meet again......

Nou maak julle my net lus.

Asb manne. Dis so maklik! Dit sal lekker wees om saam te gaan. Groete Rolbos

No Probs Bees - Tierkloof is n walk in the park teenoor Saterdag - as ek reg kan onthou laas toe ons tierkloof gedoen het was daar n paar standard voertuie en geen probleem.
Moet se ek haal my keppie af vir jou - ek sou my bedinges het as my bakkie standard was.

hey guys, thanks from me too, especially to Petrus and Thys for talking the newbie through the difficult sections. Just wish I had someone with me in the car on that last downhill :)
My wife is just shaking her head at the state of my runningboards, but hey - that's what they're there for.
Here's some pictures, let me know if anyone wants them in higher quality.
cheers

You did really well for a first trail, you did'nt hold back on trying all the obstacles.... used to wish I had someone in the hilux on the scarry parts but was glad I did'nt on that last downhill because think the weight of another person would have definitely taken my all the way over...it was very, very close, the hilux tettered as I lent over to grab the radio... the radio communication is just as good. Hope you join us on another trail and thanks for the photo'sgifkoek wrote:hey guys, thanks from me too, especially to Petrus and Thys for talking the newbie through the difficult sections.Just wish I had someone with me in the car on that last downhill :)
