Swartberg - West Coast - 4 Aug 2007

Tell us about your favorite 4x4 trail. Tell us how easy or difficult it was, is there escape routes for the faint hearted? Please add some photographs if you can.

Swartberg - West Coast - 4 Aug 2007

Post by pietpetoors »

We had a wonderful time on 4 Aug. The trail has a lot of potential. It is not fully developed into a 4x4 trail yet but it offers a exciting playground for those who would like to test their sand driving skills. We all learned a lot today. Some of us had first hand experience and saw why you should deflate your tyres to at least 0.8 bar in thick sand.
Afterwards we wanted to have a braai at Trekoskraal, but the time caught up with us and we decided to have a braai at my house.
This was a fun day and it was a pleasure to meet some of the other members of the web site.

Below are some pictures of the trail. The full story is available at http://www.pietpetoors.com/swartberg and I am sure the other members of the party will post their photographs soon.

It was a steep down with a sharp ditch at the bottom. So you could not make up too much speed to go up the other side. The other side is one of those embankments that looks easy and not that steep, but for some reason you just do not go out that easily. While trying to get out on the other side, George hanged his bakkie up in the ditch with one front and one rear wheel in the air. Eventually we just pulled the back side sideways a little bit so that he could drive in the ditch and try again. Here is two pictures Niel sent me:
