So ek is besig om n 8 duim dobsonian aanmekaar te sit vir die diep donker areas waar my bakkie hom so nou en dan in bevind.

Are you building a telescope?

If so, will you be grinding the lenses yourself?

Dit is n astronomiese teleskoop. Ek het die 8 duim spieel self uitgegrind. My suster het vir my twee pyrex blanks van die states af gestuur. Dit was min of meer so twee hondered ure se werk. Geduld moet baie wees om so stukk glas in vorm te skuur.

Die Astronomiese klub het my gehelp met die finale vorming van die spieel. Ek kon hom nie parabolies gekry het nie. Gelukkig is daar n paar ouens met dik brille en wit jasse.... :laugh2: :laugh2:

Ek het die spieel al so 6 jaar in my kas en het net nooit by die bou gedeelte uitgekom nie.

Die fokuser is ook home made uit klomp stukkies aluminium uit en n paar bearings.

Ja, my pa het ook sy eie lense ge"grind", ook hulp gekry by die astro club. Hy was feitlik klaar toe wen hy 'n fancy teleskoop by een van die klub se goed wat baie beter is as sy eie.... Maar hy't aanhou bou.
dis nogals freaky as jy vir Saturnus kyk en die ringe kan sien en tussen die ring en die planeet deur kan sien...
Ek haal my hoed af vir die ouens wat die tyd en geduld het om daai lense te grind.
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.
