What could these be?

Post by Froll »

While we were on leave in Port Nolloth in December 2012 this bamboo pole washed up one morning. It was covered with these funny looking creatures. I have never seen anything like this before and wonder if anyone on the forum know what they are.

Beautiful. Never seen them before but interesting. Some type of bivalve, perhaps? Were those hard shells?

Mud dog is spot on,also called a bivalve because of the two halves joined by a muscle.

Interesting, are they from SA or did they drift in from somewhere else as I have never seen them before. Are the edible?
