I went to Ponta Malongane on Sunday with a Discovery 4, beach driving permits from the Mozambican gevrnment and parks board, and found this on the beach...

A Leatherback of 1,76m x 1,25m weighing over 800 kgs...

The tracks of the turtle is underneath the Discovery...

Te pragtig, ek weet nou hoekom hy sand op sy rug het, want as 'n Drover oor my geparkeer het.....sou hy olie op gehad het op sy dop!

Beautiful! She's no puppy, takes decades of survival to get to that size. Pity there was no one standing next to her for size comparison. (Not you of course, Ewald!) :wink:

It is a pity to think that only one or maybe two will make it to adulthood :thumbdown: Would like to witness this event in person. Is there a hotspot for any kind of sea turtle laying eggs on the Western Cape beaches?
