Half price deal, Lesotho - This weekend!!!

Post by OOOOMS »

Halfway Toyota Honeydew, has had x4 last minute cancellations for a nice trip for this weekend! (23,24,25-06-2012)

But here is the good news.....they are offering it at HALF price :!: This is a good deal guys that would be interested, we have done it and it was absolutely awsome trip!!!

Halfway Toyota Honeydew Presents the …..
Khubelu River Valley Adventure

Situated in the Eastern regions on the Lesotho Mountain Kingdom lies the un-spoilt and remote village of Maloraneng . The village of Maloranang is nestled in the Khubelu valley on the banks of the Khubelu River not far from the Litseng Diamond Mine.
Our base for the weekend will be at the Chalets in the Sky, a Mountain resort built on the banks of the Khubelu River.
Getting there requires the use of a 4Wheel drive vehicle to tackle the scenic mountainous route along the way as we pass over the notorious Moteng pass at topping out at around 3000 meters above sea level, then down into the valley of the Malibamatso river before climbing once more before our final descent into the Khubelu river valley and along to our Chalet resort.
Lesotho is a Winter Wonderland where temperatures may drop to -18 degC when the natural snowfalls occur any where between the months of May to August.

Chalets in the Sky
Chalets in the Sky is a resort with six clean and well presented Rondavels’. Each rondavel has two single beds with a sleeper couch, small kitchen area and a bathroom with a bath and shower.
The package includes dinner and breakfast at the central dining area, with each party catering for their own lunches.

Activities
Exploring the Khubelu valley with your 4x4 will take us on a spectacular 4x4 drive with great photo opportunities, and depending on Mother Nature and what she has install for us, plenty of time for building snow men.
Most of the rivers in the Mountain Kingdom are stocked with Trout and Yellow fish so for the the enthusiast, there will be plenty of opportunity’s to try your luck.
For the adventurous, there are pony rides to be taken from the Lodge and of course hiking opportunities aplenty. If it’s just a bit of R&R in the crisp mountain air on the banks of the river then that’s the way to go.

The Trip
We meet at the Fouriesburg Country Inn by 08H00 on Friday morning for breakfast and coffee where we all get to meet each other, hand out two way radios and have a trip briefing before head off in convoy for the Mountain Kingdom. (The co-ordinates are S28deg 37.334 & E028deg 12.373).
Pass through the Caledonspoort border post and head for our first stop at the top of Moteng Pass. From here on to the Chalets in the Sky, we stop at any scenic points for photos, have snow fights and general just have a good time. A stop over at the Afri Ski resort for a quick coffee if time permits and the resort does not look to be overrun with skiers. Our final descent into the Khubelu Valley is an interesting 4x4 drive that will have us putting our off-road driving skills to the test. The rest of the afternoon is yours before dinner is served in the main dining area.
Saturday after breakfast, we drive out and explore the Khubelu valley, having lunch somewhere in the mountains, returning in the afternoon sometime. After lunch it’s open time for any activities that you should choose to partake in. Remember a healthy snooze in the comfort of your Rondavel before dinner is an accepted activity in the mountains.
Sunday will see us taking a short drive out in the opposite direction to Saturday and returning to the Lodge by mid morning for attempting the ascent back up to the main road and heading for home.

What To Bring
Warm clothing is essential in these parts, and when packing your warmest clothing, do not overlook a pair of extra shoes for everyone, having dry feet at all times is paramount. Gumboots are an excellent way of keeping the feet warm and dry in the snow, especially for the children in the group.
Gloves Beanie and scarf with waterproof jackets go without saying. If you have thermal underwear, this is the time to use it; thermal socks too are a good way to go.
Bring along folding chairs and a small table if you have, who know where we may be for lunch each day.
When travelling in the mountains at the altitudes that we will be at where adverse weather conditions may drop in without much warning, be sure to pack a few days emergency rations and fresh water for just incase. Pilchards and Old Brown Sherry work wonders in the cold conditions.
Although the authorities do not like us taking our own liquor into their country, we all do but we hide it whilst crossing the border.
Then lastly, bring along the usual bits, such as, Torch, Small first aid kit, recovery kit if you have, sleeping bag and or blankets for the sleeper couch, cooler box, umbrella, rain coat, valid passport and drivers license, copy of vehicles log book, a letter giving you permission to take the vehicle in Lesotho for the duration (if you do not own the vehicle), proof of insurance whilst in Lesotho.

So they meet their clients Halfway on the price as well!

Think if it wasn't the weekend before the end of the month you would get more interest.
