Seems like the flowers are late this year. There are some batches of white Daiseys in and around Langebaan and Saldanha, but not as much yet as previous years this time

I receive a flower report from the tourism guys each week, I will post it on here every week to keep you update.
Their report includes the whole West Coast, so it as much more than my own observations.

To find out where you can view flowers contact the numbers below:

Those Cape Tonions who do not know what to do today, today might be a good day to drive to the West Coast to see some flowers.

So far it looks like a perfect day. So far no clouds, no wind and it is not cold.

I took the picture below on Thursday at Olifantskop. There are flowers everywhere now. I can say the flower season officially opened.

Around here at Olifantskop and Long Acres there are flowers aplenty. Between Langebaan and Saldanha and also on the way to Vredenburg. Note: there are road works between Langebaan and Saldanha and you might have to stop for 10 minutes. Most flowers in that area faces away from the road.

If you driving from Cape Town on the R27 and you come over the little hill just before the Engen where you have to turn off to Langebaan, if it is after 10:00, just look back over your shoulder. There is a huge patch of white flowers but you do not see it when coming from CPT as you see the back of the flowers. If you R lucky you will also see some Gemsbok in the flowers.

Note that the weather can change quickly around here. I see there seems to be some cold clouds over the sea to Saldanha's side, but so far the temperature did not drop yet.

Oeps, sorry, false alarm. Typical Langebaan.... and there the clouds are coming over and it is getting colder. Clouds not very thick, but they might prevent flowers from opening.

So now it changes from "you will see flowers" to "you might see flowers"

George gave me off yesterday afternoon, so I quickly snapped some pics.
The conditions were not ideal as it was foggy the whole morning and it only cleared when the sun was high. The wind was also blowing and flowers tend to not stand still when the wind blows, thus what looks like camera shake is actually flower shake.

I took a pic of one of the streets so that you can get an idea what streets look like in Langebaan during flowering season.

I am no plant expert, but the flowers opened about ten days later than normal and so far most days were too cloudy for the flowers to open. So my thumb suck guess and common sense tells me they might hang on for longer this year.

Is 'n Spinnekopblom ja.

No Neil they are a bit scares, you only get them here and there.
We are lucky enough to have one on the open stand across the road. Sadly one day they will build there and it will be gone. Last year I did remove on of the bulps and planted it on our stand. The plant came out, but did not flower this year. Hopefully it will flower next year.

2015 Update.
This year there are plenty of flowers. I am surprised because we did not have much rain in winter and I nether though we would see this much flowers.

Took some pics today, weather wasn't ideal for flower photography as the wind is blowing, so I did not take pretty pictures, I went to take general pictures to give you an idea what it looks like.

I only went in Langebaan, then out to the Engen garage on the R27, then turned right from the R27 to Vredenburg, right again after Juffroushoogte to Mital steel. Then at Mital turned right towards Jacobsbaai and left again on the service road on the western side of Mital steel.

These are only some spots but this year there are really flowers everywhere.

I also post the pictures below in the same order:

we are keen on visiting the flowers next year. (2017) Where does one camp in the Springbok, Port Nolloth, Garies, Namaqua Nat Park area. I have numerous maps and charts of Bots and Nam but nothing on the Northern cape. If you've camped there before or know a farmer that will allow camping, please share your knowledge with a desperate Toppie.

Many years ago (1999) I camped at Springbok Caravan Park, it was pleasant enough and ablutions were clean. Would probably be best to check it out first now though.
