Toyota Surf
Hi,
What do you guys know of the Toyota Surf and how does it compare to the old 2.2/2.4 SFA Hilux?
Thanks in advance,
Pieter

Re: Toyota Surf
Hi Pieter.
My bakkie is actually called the Hilux Botswanna spec.My Body and interior is the same as the Surf.My Chassis and motor is the same as the SFA.
The Surf or 4Runner have an IFS.I have not seen one with a 4Y(2.2l).I spoke to a couple of these owners and they are very happy with it.It is a bit more refined "verfynd" than the solid SFA.
What model and spec are you looking at?

Re: Toyota Surf
Hi george,
When I phoned the person selling the Surf to find out the exact details and spec they told me it's already been sold... The ad say that it had a 4Y engine.
So normally the Surf have an IFS and not a 4Y engine?
I'd rather go for your spec with SFA than otherwise explained.

Re: Toyota Surf
Piet it could well be.I have realised that Toyota did a lot of defferent things. The ad say that it had a 4Y engine
If you are looking for a station wagon type of van than the surf is a good option.
Otherwise stick to SFA hilux
Niel.I agree nothing wrong with IFS.They are just a bit lower (in life). Then again we wait for tommorow....

This one is still for sale at a local dealer here in Klerksdorp. It features a V6 engine.

At what dealership is this Surf standing? I'd like to look at it. Just to see how it looks.

Re: Toyota Surf
Riaan,
I took quite a few pics a while ago for someone who was interested on the Hilux forum, but the vehicle was still there yesterday when I drove past. It is a 4-Runner, but as far as I know, Surf & ForeRunner are one & the same vehicle, depending on country of origin. I believe it belonged to Farouk, at Speedy Car Sales, and if that is the case, this vehicle will be in absolute tip-top condition, Farouk has no shortage of ability when it comes to motor vehicles.
It is on show here: I couldn't get too many clearer pics due to the way it was parked and the sun was reflecting off the closed windows, but here are some more:

Re: Toyota Surf
From the pic's I can see that it is still looking good.
If this was Farouk's car, one can buy this without hesitation.
Thanks for the pic's.

Re: Toyota Surf
We have a member at our 4x4 club. He owns 2 Surfs. A 89 surf with a 2.4tdi motor in. This is his toy. It's a SFA hilux with IFS in the front. The other suf is a 96 model with a 2.7i in. This is his run about. It's a Hilux IFS but has coils allaround. What a nice ride!!!
