Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...
I want to find out what is the worst angle people do with a Hilux without landing on the roof or the people that disregarded limits and had a view of the world upside down... ?
I drive a raised suspension, 33” tyres and raised body IFS. My maximum tilt I have done sideways is 47 degrees measured by a digital protractor. Super careful still very scary .
The picture doesn’t do it justice.
The big question is... What's the limit... ?

Re: Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...
The Hilux has a roll over angle of 42 degrees. That is one of the few vehicles that does have such a high side slope degree rating.
I think a LR can only go up to 30 Degrees before they become unstable.
Most manufacturers don't specify it these days anymore.
I really doubt if you will be still able to drive on a 47 degree side slope as it is over a 100% gradient. Trying sideways will result in a roll, so I doubt if it can be done a standard Vehicle.

The higher you lift the vehicle, via body, supsension lifts & bigger tyres... the higher the centre of gravity... the lower the roll over angle will be... same with weight distribution, canopies and roof top tents will mean a lower roll over angle...

Re: Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...
Roll over angles are influenced by many factors, like suspension upgrades, the way the vehicle is loaded, the type of terrain we are driving on etc etc. Some manufacturers claim serious angles, but we shouldnt take them as gospel. Nissan claims the Navara has a ridiculous roll-over angle of almost 50 degrees, but I wont want to find out if it can actually do that. (I dont want a Navara anyway )
My personal opinion on this is, as soon as your internal roll-over sensor kicks in you are close to the limit anyway.. Be that at 20 or 40 degrees. Once you get tensed up like that you tend to make stupid mistakes..

The Navara roll over angle is excellent... it being so low to the ground!

Nice one Mark, but bear in mind that these competition guys often "cheat" by filling water into the tyres ..... brings the COG down dramatically.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Re: Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...

If it was not for the fact that my back diff lock was on and when it happened I gassed it so the back end came out and saved the day.
OOOOMS I think you were there when it happened
Gives new meaning to the saying 'When in doubt, Gas It! It may not solve the problem, but it WILL end the suspense!'

- ek sou!

Re: Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...

Re: Worst angle you have ever been without rolling over...
Manne,
Vragmotor
Afgelaai.
:wth:

If you really want to check, you can do the same thing using a forklift, but it better be a big one if you're going to use it as the 'anchor'.

Ek was hierdie naweek week 32 grade by Hennops, sal die fotos nog kry. EISH!
