1999 Hilux SRX

My first post so please forgive me if this has been discussed.
I searched thru the forums and not one fully answered my question

I'm in the market for a DC 2.7. There is one for sale for R85K:
1999 SRX
150 l tank
60 l water tank
rooftop tent
185K on the clock

The reason for a 2.7 was the lack of power I had with my 2.2. I had a 1993 2.2 wheeler about 2.5 yrs ago which I used for fishing. On the sand in arniston it proved very underpowered as well as the hills. Sometime had to drop to third going up Sir Lowry Pass when the SE is pumping. I miss her very much, as I had to sell to buy a house. Priorities !!!
Thus now I'm able to look for one again and the 2.7 seemed a better option.

I did notice on this forum it was said the SRX comes with no difflock. How expensive is this to have fitted? Also, what are the other diff to the 2.7 raider. THe engine specs are the same? Is this a good buy?

Welcome to the forum.

I think it is a good buy, especially if it comes with a service history. At 185k on the clock the engine has just run in. :D

The SRX is very basic when compared to the Raider: Cloth seats, no mouldings on the wheel arches, no electric windows/mirrors and no carpet. Instead it has a vinyl floor covering. As you mentioned no diff lock. I am not sure about aircon, as my SRX (SC) is fitted with a aftermarket Dunair system.
I prefer my SRX because there are less to go wrong (not that things usually go wrong with a Toyota), and when you get stuck in the mud and you soil your "carpet" you just wash the dirt off!

I fitted a Gearmax locker @ R5,500 here in Cape Town.

I like the basic nature of the SRX too, like you said, just wipe of the dirt.

Pls tell me it has PS at least. That 2.2 of mine had no PS and it was a killer trying to do a three point turn

Could one fit the wheel arches to the SRX. besides it looks good, to me it provides better protection to the body work??

It comes std with power steering. I'm not so sure that the moulded wheel arces give better protection: it makes the vehicle sligtly wider an therefore should be more prone to scratching. I priced a set some time ago at Toyota and it came to +- R2,600

It sure looks better, especially if you go for wider tyres.

I was more thinking along the line of providing more protection to the body from stones etc.

How difficult is it to add the wheel arches. I saw a raider with one missing, and the fender hand holes punched that looked like it was made for the arches to clip into. But with the SRX, there are no holes, so how do you get this fitted.

Also, what would be the cost of aircon?
