7mge Hilux Query
Hi All
I am looking at a Hilux which has a 7mge motor fitted, but with a Carb.
I am a bit concerned about the consumption and Simon has suggested I get the forums advice on the following :
1) What consumption can I realistically get on this motor (Owner has indicated about 4km per litre)
2) Is it advisable to change to the Fuel injection set up.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards
Jon

Re: 7mge Hilux Query
Absolutely change to EFI. No discussion there.
My Supralux achieved 6.5 km/l.

Re: 7mge Hilux Query
Hey boet, last time I checked Kaspaas did 6.9 - 7.5 km/l on the open road at 120km/h.(Owner has indicated about 4km per litre)
I have done some serious off roading and even on trails where a lot of low range and to-ing and fro-ing was required have I not been able to get the fuel consumption below 4.5km/l. You need to change to EFI seriously... I am sure Bennie will be able to give you some pointers... :)
Good luck, those motors are awesome... 8)

Re: 7mge Hilux Query
If you buy this bakkie let us know and we can advise you on the fitment of an EFI. I agree, carbs sucks an EFI would be 100 times better.

Re: 7mge Hilux Query
Can anyone tell me whether the parts for a 7mgte and 7mge are interchangeable.
If a bakkie has a 7mge conversion on it, would one be able to fit in a 7mgte motor with relative ease using same exhaust, radiator , ancilliaries etc.
With the motor in the Hilux allready, it would probably be cheaper to buy an import supra motor than trying to get the injectors, manifolds etc and then just replace the engine as a whole and have the other one as a back up.
Thanks
Jon

Re: 7mge Hilux Query
I really feel for you Jon, as I know what lies ahead for you.
Be prepared to spend lots of $$$$$$$$$
Best advice is to buy a cheap DC, and take it in to Supratech for a complete conversion like mine.
Pay R40K max for a bakkie, do the conversion, up the suspension, bodylift and wheels, re-do the interior, and some other extras, and you will have a serious cabby that you can trust. It is the only way to go. To buy for expensive, and still have to work on it (like I did) is just not the way to go. TRUST ME!!!!

Rather stay away form the Turbo as it introduces a lot of problems. The 7MGE has all the power you need and if the conversion is already reliable do not scratch where it doesn't itch as that is going to cost you. Turbo means extra heat, and the exhausts is different as well.
To convert that bakkie to a EFI you are going to need a intake manifold, Injectors fuel rail and throttle body as well as an ECU to control the set-up. The recommended system to use is the Dicktator system.
