Ok, so I'm full of questions today.
What's an acceptable oil consumption for our vehicles?
Mine has 190 000 k's on the clock and I'm at about 1pt/1000 km.
This sound right? It doesn't smoke or anything.

Re: Oil Consumption?
Hi Shane
At 10 000 km you use 5liter of oil,its seems a bit to high for me.My 4y doesnt use any oil between 10 0000 km services and has 300 000 km on the clock.I am not the 1ste owner of the bakkie, so i dont kwow if the the engine was overall by the previous owner/s.
I would say 1 liter of oil per 10 000 km is more acceptable

Re: Oil Consumption?
That's too high IMO, what Dawie said is more realistic. Does it smoke on start-up and when it's labouring? Then have a compression test done. If the valve stem seals are worn it will also use oil ... if you can't see the tail pipe in your side mirror, get someone to drive behind you while running against compression downhill to see if it's smoking.

Mine has the 22R in but I assume that that wouldn't make such a huge difference. But I'll do all the tests and check just in case.Hoppy wrote:a pint on every second tank is normal on 200k for a 4Y

Re: Oil Consumption?
I have a similar problem, and not getting aswers on the high oil usage of my 2010 4x4 Toyota hilux D4D. The bakkie has 160000km on the clock and recently started using oil.
Toyota replaced the turbo, oil censor, pully seals and want to open the engin now to see if the bakkie wasnt 'over oiled' which caused damaged to the sleaves. It uses 500ml per 1000km. Its costing me a lot of money to keep replacing parts and was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problem before?

Re: Oil Consumption?
My D4D has 270 000 ks on and does not use a drop of oil between services every 10 000 ks.
