Hilux suspension

Post by Echochaser »

Hi

A friend of mine is looking to lift his 2005 hilux.
Problem is could find a kit for less that 15k with TJM turning at more than 18k.

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Do it once and spend the money. You can go through a lot of pain by trying different things. Just use the search function for more advice. It will keep you busy for hours (literally).

If you just want to lift and go cheap as possible, just go spacers in the front and shackles at the back! This will cost you 3K. Will give you a nice lift! But not the performance of the other expensive suspentions!

The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.

Mods: EFS suspension - ARB front bumper replacement - Warn winch - Rear sparewheel carrier bumper - 160l long range fuel tank - Toatal unberbelly plate protection - Canvas seat coners - Alu steel Canopy - Snorkel - Kenwood TK VHF Radio - Ctek 250s Dual batery system with solar pannel

Hi, this is what I did:

Coils springs and Leaf springs from supremespring: http://www.supremespring.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, mosesz@supremespring.co.za is the sales contact for aftermarket suspensions. I paid R4218 for coils and leafs - and the leafs fit with the existing fixtures (u-bolts, etc) of your Hilux. The coils have a rating of 12.3kg/mm and leafs can take an additional 300kg per leaf, so they are quite hard.

Gabriel Safari HDP shocks at R3217 directly from Diesel Electric ex VAT (wife's company has some contacts for their employees)

Autoquip fitment: R1400

All round lift of around 45mm, and what's nice is the shocks are adjustable, so if you need more lift, you can just adjust the shocks.

All in all, just uinder R9000 for a complete suspension upgrade. I have taken the vehicle on a gravel raod and the difference is immense! No more jumping around and a "sinkplaatpad" feels level.

I have not taken it on a 4x4 excursion yuet, but will be trying it out in the Drakensberg next month.

Hi Dewald

Any more feedback on the HDP's, are you still happy after your 4x4 trip?

Cheers
