Tyre options
Morning all,
Been shopping around for new tyres the last 3 weeks (have BFG's AT at moment) and came to 2 choices, reason for these 2 best price I could find and seems to have decent reviews:
Hankook ATM RF10 @ R1920
Maxxis AT 980 @ R2080
From members experience who has these tyres, mileage I can expect and any other feedback ?
Thanks.

Re: Tyre options
Currently using Maxxis muds and happy with them, not hard and not too soft, not clue of this specific model, just maybe find out which of the two has a better/stronger side wall, that could be the other main difference

Re: Tyre options
Reinhard what type of terrain are you using your vehicle on? The Hankooks are not too bad.. Just used one in the Richtersveld..

Re: Tyre options
Hankook DynoPro or Bridgestone duellers if you want to stay on AT tyres. BF's is no longer an option for me.

Re: Tyre options
Hi Thys,
Offroad will mostly be some rocky terrain like Sani/Lesotho and then sand KZN North Coast & Moz.
Also used as my daily vehicle to the office and back, that is 101km tar driving a day. So also need a tyre with high mileage capabilities.

Re: Tyre options
Thys, I was a BF fan, all my friends had them! So went the route ( A/T not mud, please note). The tyres did not disappoint, other than the comfort and road noise and in the wet. I do travel 85% on tar, so I'm not bad mouthing the off-road capability (rest assured). (Also note that I no longer have my Hilux, traded it for a Fortuner). I appreciate the softer riding tyres however and never experienced difference eg, mud, dirt sand (well softer side walls provided me with better sand drift). We all know that you have to adopt, and if you mostly do country roads, like I do, and not rocky mountain high, then BF's would be overpriced as an all terrain tyre in my perspective. Val, our appreciated and respected member on this forum has posted some concerning facts and details some time ago and which she has experienced with her BF's on low mileage.
Trust you will find this in order.

Re: Tyre options
Thanks Rian, so you were happy with your BF AT's and it is only the price that makes it a no go?
Reason why I am asking is that I am in a bit of a dilemma at the moment.. I am considering a set of train wheels for my Hilux...

Re: Tyre options
Agree Toppie, BFG way too expensive now...why pay around R900 per tyre more when you can get another brand that is just as good or even better for less? I have never had issues with my BFG's but now you pay more for the name as every 2nd guy driving a bakkie has BFG's so he doesnt feel left out...

Re: Tyre options

Re: Tyre options
I pay R3500 for a BF with a smile. Daai ander tyres lyk na n paar weke soos ystervarke van die snot plugs waar ek ry.
