Fuel Consumption
I recently went on a long trip with my 2.7vvti-facelift. My consumption was chosen lose to 10km/litre. I had a light load and speed was not more than 120km. Has anyone come accross such figures or my calculations were inaccurate?

Re: Fuel Consumption
It is hard to believe-but if true you are a very lucky man to get that fuel consumption.

Re: Fuel Consumption
Traveling in the Kruger Park at 50km/h for more than 200km, my old IFS 2.7 gave me 13km/l. Well, when pushing back to Pretoria the same old 7.5km/l was the norm.

If jou have 80L tank on 700km you do about 8,7 kl/L that is if you got a 80L tank

Re: Fuel Consumption
C TM, you must give better indication on how much you filled-up, 70l ? at that mileage. I don't believe that it could be 80l's. If you fuel light comes on you still have approximately 8 - 12 litres in reserve.

Re: Fuel Consumption
Charlton, I think you are making a mistake. Your vehicle has at least an 80L tank, so you will get just over 8. Which sounds reasonable. 10 sounds amazing but I think too good to be true. Sorry.

Re: Fuel Consumption
Make sure you will to the brim. Next time you fill up take the Kilos traveled, divide by the litres and you will get km/l
If they always fill to the brim and you make the maths like that you cannot make a mistake.
Calculating kilos according to more or less the size tank is very inaccurate.
A scary calculation is to take the rand value and divide by the kilos , that gives you rand per kilo.
If you do that one you all of the sudden drive less. All of the sudden you realize that traveling 100km cost you R220.00

Re: Fuel Consumption
I got my 2009 2.7 VVTi about 3 weeks ago and according to the on-board computer it says I am averaging around 9.3 km/L... I have checked it from pump to pump and I am getting the similar values give or take a few km/L here and there...
I will be going to Durban next week so a proper long drive but up to now have had long drives on the highway as well as around town and nothing changed much in consumption.
When doing my research before deciding on the 2.7 there was a lot of talk about it being thirsty but I am yet to experience that?

Re: Fuel Consumption
The on-board computer is out by 0.6 km/l, thus your calculation should be in the order of 8.7km/l? Can you confirm this, well I can. This is still good. I think as you get to know your vehicle better, your fuel consumption will get worse. One tends to drive more economical with your newly purchased vehicle.

Re: Fuel Consumption
I can confirm with certainty that 10km/l is possible on a 2.7 vvti DC. Drove from Pretoria one night, filled up in Pretoria and when I got to Musina after 493Km I had to top up only 49 litres. I kept my speed under 130km/hr through out the trip - had no heavy load.

Re: Fuel Consumption
Last year we did nice trip with a 2,7. Over a couple of tanks the average fuel consumption was 8,2 l/km.
Light load, and we were not racing.

Re: Fuel Consumption
Your consumption is amazing at that speed with that vehicle.
Hope that it is not too good to be true.
