Mine from new. Clocked 225000k's. Immaculate but has started idling erratically. When engine warm and you stop , the idling doesn't come back down to say 700rpm but "races " at 1200rpm . Also , if it does come back to 700rpm she sometimes " wavers " thereafter between 700rpm and 1200rpm . This does not happen all the time but inconsistently. 2 Toyota franchises in kzn could not fix and eventually they sent me to a specialist in Durban who solved it. Now 8 years later the problem has returned .i now live in Somerset West and I need to give my garage a clue what the problem is likely to be as they have no answer in discussing it with them. Any clues?

Hi Glen.
You might want to clean the throttle body and see if that helps.
Also check that all the hoses are connected and in good shape.

Possible leaking intake manifold? Try spraying a little Q20 around the intake gasket against the head. If the engine revs change when you do this, then there's a leak on the intake mani gasket. Not sure if the 2.7 has an idle control valve, but if it does it could be getting stuck allowing some air through.

My first thought... funny enough it could also be a faulty battery / alternator.Mr_B wrote:Possible leaking intake manifold? Try spraying a little Q20 around the intake gasket against the head. Had a simular issue with my Tazz... cleaned the ICV and just after that had to replace the battery (was acting up prior to this) and after this the idling was sorted
To God be the glory

BTW, did a little research and yes the 2.7 3RZ does have a ICV, or as called on this motor a IAC valve.
