Pinging noise from Front Suspension - 2011 Hilux

Hi People,

Just wanted to check with you guys if you could give me an idea of what to expect when i go to the mechanic.

Here's the situation:

When i turn the steering wheel to full left lock a series of pinging noises come from somewhere near the front axle.

The noises sound like tung tung tung tung and only come while the steering is turning between three-quarter left lock and full left lock.

My guess is that its from the steering rack because there's no noise in straight line driving at any speed.

Noise only comes when the steering is near left lock (not right) and also generally at low speed since going full lock at high speed is not something I'm likely to test..... ever...

So, if you have an idea about what I'm in for then I'd appreciate your help.

Yep, sounds like the left CV. When you turn to the left, the angle of the left wheel is considerably more acute than when turning right because of it being the inner track. Sometimes, if you catch it early, you can get lucky and just cleaning / re-packing of the joint sorts it out but it is a sign that it's on it's way. It may be a lot less hassle and cheaper long term to just replace it now.
