This is great, I always wondered whether or not the Lux was using to much fuel...

Vehicle: 1996 4x4 Raider D/c SFA
Motor: 2.4 petrol - Standard(as far as I know - have the Lux for just over a year)
Km's on the clock: 239 000
Vehicle lift/ suspension: Standard
Air filter: Standard
Snorkel?: no
EFI?: no
Cam cut?: Standard
Exhaust mod?: Standard
Tyre Type & Size?: Bridgestone A/T 30 x10.5 R15(2 weeks old - before that Roadstone same size)
Tyre pressure Around town with lighter loads: Front 2.0, Rear 2.0
Permanent roofrack/ tent etc?: No
Aircon?: Yes, depending on the temp
Difflock (orig/afterfit)?: Standard
Canopy?: only when we go camping

Had the bakkie Dino-tuned beginning of the year.

Travel between Brackenfell and Stellenbosch on a daily bases and get 7.4k/l. Recently did a trip to Montaque springs, fully loded with tents and camping equipment the aircon on and got 8.2k/l.

Just because it says "4WD" doesn't make it an off-road vehicle.

one thing I've learnt is that a man is as honest about his fuel consumption as a Sunday Golfer is about his scorecard

Only have Roy for 2-3 weeks now but filled the tank (only took 50L :eh: ) and reset the odo. Got to 280 kms before the needle was on Eish! Refilled (now only 42L  ).

So 280 divided by 42 is 6.666666666666666666666666 kms/L.

Man, that consumption is just plain EVIL

Hi my naam is Rich

I drive a Knock-Off 4Y with aftermarket Efi

my fuel consumption is:

bumper to bumber Urban Cycle (90% of my usage): 6.3Km/ltr

Unadulterated Urban Cycle (school holidays traffic): 1% of my Usage: 7.3km/ltr

Highway Cycle (110km/r:- 3000rpm in 5th gear): 2% of my Usage: 9.5km/ltr

Highway Cycle (+150km/h in 5th gear) - 7% of my Usage: 6km/ltr

To be brutally honest I should keep a consumption record saam as an Aeronautical Log:

Litres Consumed per Hour (but I don't) :shifty:

To be brutally honest Rich, I think you should trade in Dadz for a prius to keep your consumption down, especially since I don't see any mention of offroad in that very comprehensive breakdown of yours. :o:

I've been running my Hilux for a while now and I feel qualified to post here.
2001 model SRX 2700i D/C 4x4
With Steel canopy:
Open road cruising between 90-120......7- 7.5km/l
Traffic driving (Daily commute from Durbanville to Maitland).......6.5-7 km/l

No Canopy
Open road cruising between 110-140........8.5-9km/l

I have a FB canopy which I will be fitting this week for a trip to struis, will see how the consumption goes with that on.

This is only your speedo giving you another reading, if you measured with a GPS it would have been the same. The only thing is change your 70 / 75 profile, would not have made any difference to your fuel consumption.

Hi Guys

I just ran my lux ('01 2700i D/C 4x4) up to Arniston and it returned great figures of 8,3km/l. I had my Fibreglass canopy on for the run but did not have my usual 4 rods and a gaff on the roof and I'm sure the lack of the resistance from the rods helped. My cruising speed was much higher than usual though running between 100(up the hills) and 120 and even managed to hit 150 on one flat section while opening the taps just for the hell of it, and there was still plenty left under the right foot!!

Delon I got 9.3km/l on my Fortuna 4x4 D4D when I bought it new and after
80 000km it improved to 10.8 km/l and that was town driving. On the open road towing a trailer and cruising at 130 km/h I got over 12km/l
I got almost 800 km on a tank and the tank is only 65l

Hi Kelvin
I recently bought a 4L Double cab 4x4 Automatic
I must say, it was not as bad as i expected it to be.
Most of my driving has been to work and back. Not much traffic driving at 120km/h on the N1
I started off with 6.7km/l (14.92l/100km). My foot was a bit heavy in the beginning.
But after I started to use the accelerator ALOT more conservatively, my consumption came down dramatically to my current which is about 7.8km/l (12.82L/100km).
She does tend to suck more fuel when you go over 120km/h.
I am pretty sure that i could get 8km/l(12.5L/100km) on the open road if I behave :D:

Hi Kevin
There were a couple of reasons for that
1. I do not pay for my petrol :-)
2. I Tow a caravan, and the 4L V6 has alot of power. Used to tow with a 2.5 TD Ford D/C.
3. Love the auto box, works very well in sand, and well, i am a tad lazy.
4. Reasonably priced, low mileage 4x4 Hilux bakkies are hens teeth in Cape Town

I bought my 4 L new about 6 months ago, started off at 6, 6 km/L at the beginning.(With this bakkie you can't help it, it just wants GO) It became a lot better as it ran in (up to 7.5) On our hunting trip, laden and towing a heavy trailer 8.5 at a steady 120 km/h (Almost identical to a two wheel drive 30 D4D DC with similar load) This was measured from Kimberley to Langebaan. I installed my Alu Cab, load system, double battery system and the suspension (about 50mm) It averages 6.5 at the moment and if I remove the roofrack with windbreaker on the canopy I am sure it will do 7 km/L
It is a wonderful bakkie, been to Botswana with it and stay on the Westcoast.
(In Botswana it averaged over 9 km/L at slower speeds -100km/h on the gravel) Powerful , smooth and the auto box incredible.
It has got 34 000 km on at the moment.

Hi Danie
Het daai 50mm body lift 'n verskil aan jou brandstof verbruik gemaak ?
Ek dink daar aan om die 50mm levelling kit op te sit, net om die voorkant so bietjie te lig
