Rear Wiper Intermittent Setting

Post by WildWill »

Hello All - on the new "facelift" Fortuner, (as I understand, but have not seen it) the rear wiper control stalk includes a setting for intermittent operation of the rear wiper. A feature which, if you own one of the original Generation 1 Fortuners, you may regard as very usefull, as on the previous models there was only "on" and "off" for the rear wiper. While I am not planning on swopping my current Fortuner for the new one, it would be nice to have just this one feature incorporated in my current car. Is it possible from an auto-electrical perspective? Who could give me a technical answer on this and is there somewhere specifically that I can go to have it done?

Yes it can be done. They cut the current wiper switch wire and fit a spesial timer inline with the wiper switch wire. A nice DIY project!

But this suggested solution implies that you would then ONLY be able to operate the rear wiper in Intermittent mode, right?

Two timers . One on the front wiper and one on the rear wiper.

Gertc, what I mean is I need both the standard "fully on" and intermittent functionality form the one switch on the rear wiper. The new Fortuner does hsve this while theold one does not, only has fully on. So if you insert the timing circuit into the harnass, it will convert the rear circuit to a intermittent only setup, correct? WHihc means that now you can only use the rear wiper in intermittent mode, not fully on??
