Fortuner 2009 4x4 dash light-urgent info needed

Hi all

I'm about to buy a 2009 fortuner. On test driving it the 4x4 light on the dash didn't come on when 4x4 engaged. Dealer reckons this year model doesn't have a light, only has one for diff lock.

Is this correct?

Seems odd to me, surely there is a light to tell you if you in HL, LL , etc.

Please let me know if this is right or if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one?

I have 2006 model and it definitely has a warning light when CDL is engaged. I cant see how the newer models dont have as it serves as a warning so you disengage when back on the road. Sounds fishy.....

I can assure you it has a light indicating 4x4 is selected.

The Fortuner is a permenant 4WD....

Two wheel drive versions are equipped with a lockable rear differential, while four wheel drive versions of the 3.0 D-4D and 4.0 V6 further adds a heavy duty transfer case and a lockable rear differential, with a Torsen limited slip centre differential. The 4x4 versions of the Fortuner are permanently in four wheel drive mode and the driver can use the transfer case to switch between 4WD High and 4WD Low.

Yes, perm 4WD, but when you lock the CDL (switch from H to HL) there is a light that comes on on the dash indicating this. From HL to LL lights up even more icons.

Suidwes, yes and no. It is permanent 4wd but when we talk about engaging 4x4, we mean that the CDL is locked. Without the CDL engaged you will get slip when the vehicle is under strain. When locked, the light does come on to indicate that the CDL is locked and we consider it proper 4x4.

After physically showing them the light on another fortuner they now agree it should have one.

Sometimes I wonder if the dealers even know anything about the cars they selling.

Sure, same as the Prado - CDL light but no 4x4 H or L light
