3D4D bonnet scoop

I have a 2010 Fortuner with the smaller off-set bonnet scoop for the intercooler. Is it possible to replace this with the later model's wider scoop "centre" without to much modifications? I have not measured the later model's scoop hight, it seems a bit flatter, although its wider thus I presume that the intake air volume should be the same or even more? If possible, should the bonnet also be cut? Who has done this and what is the pro's and cons?
Thanks

I do note that this an old post, but did anyone successfully replaced the 3 slot with a newer 4 slot scoop?

If so what work/change is needed?

Very good question. I contemplated buying a bonnet from a scrapyard but the lines on the new ones differs. The new scoop does increase the effieciency of the intercooler as the 3 fin gives way to little air to the fins. Possibly the 4 fin is also not very efficient but still a huge improvement over the small 3 fin.

Your biggest problem will be to get just the scoop. There are no pirates available and salvage yards only sell them with the bonnet for the new face lift models. Toyota charge between R2500 - R3000 for just the scoop alone iirc.

Iff anyone find some of these scoops for cheap ill take x 5 please

I had this discussion on another forum and the most sensible answer was: According to the manufacturer there is no difference in power from the 3 vane to 4 vane...so this must be cosmetic?

An extra 5cm of bonnet scoop is not going to give such an increase in power that it will be noticeable. Remember you inter-cooler has a plastic cover onto which the scoop seals to prevent water from flowing into the engine bay. This plastic cover also needs to be changed, as well as the inter-cooler to have a noticeable effect.

A larger front mounted intercooler will be a better option.
