TOYOTA 4RUNNER YN63 4YE ENGINE.

I have a 1988 Toyota 4Runner fitted with a 4YE engine. The problem I am having is with removing the head after blowing a head gasket. As it is fuel injected this is the area that I am actually having the problem with as the manual is not as straightforward as one would like it to be as I haven't tackled an EFI before but have built many carby Holden motors in my time.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem with removing the EFI unit as I would appreciate any advice regarding this.
I eventually would like to fit a Commodore V6 but am not in the race to do this at the moment.
