Burnco Rock Sliders

Post by Family_Dog »

Hein has replied to my post regarding the sliders, and sent me photos. I would really like some more info on these, they look very nice, but if anybody is close to Burnco and can assess them for me, I would be most grateful.

Burnco Rock Sliders RS.jpg
I would like to know more about the manner in which they are attached to the vehicle, their strength & rigidity, and any possible 'hands-on' experience anyone might have in using them.

And then, if anyone might be coming up this way (Klerksdorp/JHB) and might have room for them, that would definitely be an added bonus for me if I decided to buy the sliders!

Got it, thanks!

One more thing I would like to know is the diameter of the pipe used, as well as the wall thickness of same. My thoughts are that 65mm diameter pipe with a wall thickness of about 3.2mm should do the job - or am I going overboard here?

Eric, must be as close as ....... to the one's I've fitted.
SS 1.JPG
SS 2.JPG
Pipe is 76mm steam pipe, (3.5mm thick) and is bolted to your chassis with high tensile steel bolts. The mounting brackets are manufactured from 5mm steel plate. The RS are undercoated / primed, then 2 coats 2K, then painted with a matt industrial black.

They are strong. You can jack on them.

Not "factory" finish, but strong. When you are at Berakah this weekend, you'll see everything you enquire.

If you know the design, Tommy could probably weld you a set for around half the price......

Let me know, and I can take closer, more detailed pics for you, whick you can pass on to your local engeneering shop.....

Re: Good looking Hilux ...

I saw her at Burnco. She has now apparently cost over the R200k mark.
If I remember correctly, running 35's, V8, new interior, OME + lift, etc.

She IS beautiful & grunts like a BEAR. MMmmmmmm......

Have added a few pic's I took. (Sorry, cellphone camera quality not so good.)

I have ordered a set of Burnco Rock Sliders, based on what every one has said about them. They are built of 65mm steam pipe with a wall thickness of 3.2mm, sounds ideal!

Hein sent me the following photos of how they attach to a Hilux:

Now to get them here... :!:

Here are some ideas for rock sliders. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/sliders/

If you use the bolt on type, do they bolt on to the chassis ?

Hi Greenhorn,

Yes, they bolt on to the chassis. That was one of my requirements, refer the last photo posted above.

Some really nice rock sliders on that link you provided!

Greenhorn, I will never go for something you weld onto the chassis. 1. What do you do when it get damaged? Have to cut it off to repair. 2. You might soften the metal in the area where you weld, weakening the chassis.

Greenhorn,

The ONCA stuff looks pretty good,

and is priced at R3070 exclusive VAT.

Maybe I should go this way as well, I forgot about the ONCA goodies.

Any chance you can go see them and post your comments here?

Greenhorn, all the good stuff are manufactured in the Cape. Unfortunately it will cost you about R800 to get it in JHB.
Eric, what thickness pipe does they use? I like the double pipe feature.

Hi Piet,

I think they look quite snazzy as well :P

According to their website, 50mm with a wall thickness of 3mm, should definitely be strong enough.
