Bigger fuel tank

I need some advice on installing a bigger fuel tank. The 2.2 SFA' fuel tank is rather small. Where in the Western Cape can you buy these. Is there any alternatives other that replacing with a larger fuel tank or lugging Jerrycans around?

I have a 2nd standard Hilux fuel tank fitted to the left, next to the existing 65l fuel tank. These tanks are interconnected which means no extra filler hoses, no fiddling with the fuel guage (it remains as inaccurate as it always used to be) and the 2nd tank actually sits in "wasted" space. with the 2nd tank I now have a fuel capacity of 130 liters.

Mine was done about 2 years ago by Allan Venter of AEW Auto in Brackenfell and it works beautifully. :!:

It sounds like you don't have a pump that moves fuel between the tanks or a toggle to switch between the main and aux but that they are just linked by a pipe and drain simultaneously? Is all of the 130 liter capacity actually useable or is there some part of the aux that cannot drain back to the main tank? Presumably you had to reroute the exhaust to fit the tank?

Looks like a very nice (and comparatively cheap?) solution, particularly since it keeps the extra weight between the axles and you don't have to move the spare wheel or give up packing space in the back.

To duplicate the existing tank in the open space is a good idea - until you have to go slow for long periods [like a sand track through Botswana] - because the exhaust have to pass either BETWEEN the two tanks OR ver close to aux tank - your fuel literally starts to cook [boil] and you are stuck till it cools down.
A good idea might be to get the NISSAN Hard Body 95-liter tank, of the pre '99 models. They are plastic - and the heat does not effect it. Then you only have to hetashield the existing tank... and 95 Liter extra is not to be scoffed at.

No pump, toggle switches or any other funnies, the fuel drains simultaneously as it also fills up simutaneously. The exhaust was rerouted, but I have never experienced overheating or boiling fuel, and we have driven slowly in sand/rocky terrain for prolonged periods of time.

The 2 tanks are joined at the lowest point therefore logic suggests that all the fuel will be usable, but I have never actually tested it.
