Howzit George. if you look at the very first post on this thread, you will see that I was getting something like 175kms from R300 fuel and that was last year's prices. This was mainly town running. On the open road was a little better but I have a heavy right foot, so only when i behaved, it was a little better. the emphasis is on 'little'. Top end speed was good as I got around 160 with more to go (so it felt) and that was with a steel canopy and a full load of passengers. I tried a few times and if you change up before reaching 3000 revs, its much lighter. But uphills she was very sluggish even if you were doing a good speed. Hope this helps.

Mine is sluggish below 130kmph but above that it wants to run ... 160kph no problem, but here's the thing ... even though it feels stable enough, it wasn't meant to do those speeds .... neither are the tyres. It's dangerous! If one drives moderately you obviously use less fuel ... you see much more of the countryside / scenery as well, so what's the point of hammering it .;... to gain a few minutes? Rather 15 mins late than a lifetime too early!

Drive conservatively and defensively ... don't tear away off the mark from stops ... don't rush up to stops, it just chews fuel and brakes. Coast if you feel like it on longer down-hills. Be aware of the pedal position ... if the second barrel in the carb opens, it's gonna guzzle fuel ... and listen to your motor .... don't let it over rev and don't let it strain / labour unnecessarily, use the gears for this. You can achieve a dramatic fuel saving. I could get 10km/lit out of my old 4y on the open road at times depending on the road, load and head-winds. One time I even got 11km/lit! It's a driving style that you can learn to develop ... I can recognise that I have 3 distinct different styles that are each natural to me when I adopt a particular one ... just takes a bit of discipline. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Tryed sticking to the first barrel....100km/H max 7.3km/l on the open road no wind etc. sending him in a bit later for a tune-up and then we will see how it goes over the next month or so.

Hi Andy you are 100% correct about driving style and attitude. Just for clarification I dont drive at 160 with the bakkie but it can get there. With my other vehicles driving speed is different, but with the bakkie I am always more concerned about stopping speeds. We all have a heavy monster and to bring it to a stop is no easy feat. My driving at present is mostly inside tow so many robot to robot stops and lots of traffic. Hoping EFI will help her.

First barrel in 5th = 90-100km/h
First barrel in 4th = 110-120km/h

Next week we are gona change some settings on the second barrel to increase some speed when needed to overtake

Seems as if i'll stick to 4th in the furure

ok, just to ask some of you guys that already Efi'd their 22R's. For some reason Merwen's intake differ from Cassies and I also see Zantus manifolds. I just need a few photos of all the vacuum piping via booster and manifold, then all other piping to and fro from manifold to head. His have a few other piping connectors more than the other.

Pictures from front, top, left and right will help.

the 1st picture is Merwen's, the second will be Zantus/Cassie.

:excited: Guys here is the dyno report. I will post it on the dyno thread as well.
LGV853GP 22R EFi.jpg
:thankyou: Guys a HUGE thank you to Louis for the good work and the patience in dealing with me. I am really thrilled with the outcome. We have to do some tweeks here and there but this runs like a car not a bakkie. It pulls away quicky and smoothly and not like I was climbing a 50 degree hill. Last night from Pretoria I didnt change out of 5th gear. Louis, baie dankie Meneer!

This would not have been possible without the 2cw from ALL the guys from all different towns and cities. Thank you for all that. It all helped. In this process I got to meet some superb guys as well, like Mark (OOOMS) and Cassie, who were unselfish with their knowledge and time and have become my good friends. Guys thanks again to all the guys that sent me advice and offered me alternatives. Now I feel truly at home within the club and hope I can equally offer assistance to our fellow members old and new.
