Well obvious damage would be scorring on the cylinders. However to measure the wear you would need to remove the piston and check the cylinders with cylinder bore gauge or inside micrometer.

However if you going to fit a V6 chat to Sifu-Lux he has done his own van  There is a bell housing one can fit to adapt it as for the rest ask him 8)

For Ford v6 conversion:

Change engine mountings. On mine we used Dyna-truck mountings.

Get bell housing from a place (I forget their name) in Johburg that will match Hilux GB with Ford v6 motor.

Get serious radiator.

Upgrade front suspension.

The Ford V6 works well, but it is old technology, it's a heavy motor, and not as powerful as the 7MGE. I drove a ForYota HiTina for 2 years.

I presume the reason for beefing up the suspension is cos of the extra weight of the all pig iron engine oh and thanks for all the advice so far guys

Correct Pampoen. Look at these video clips.

Boggom (my previous Hilux with Ford V6) coming up the Horseshoe at Atlantis Dunes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bexUFZl7xQ

Dune Drags - Closest is Carlo's Voetsek Bakkie (7MGE)
Furthest is Boggom my previous Hilux with Ford V6.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzdTeN7z7_4

In the second video you can see that the 7MGE has superior power to the V6 although they both made it up to the top. A normal 4Y would not have crested from that short run-up.

That particular Ford V6 was a exceptionaly sweet motor. No oil leaks, no smoke and very smooth. The motor was balanced, blue printed and had a torquey cam in it which made it perfect for off-roading. The heads were gasflowed, it had branch headers and a free flow twin exhaust system.

I also used to rev 7 kinds of crap out of it without it ever complaining. BUT then the 7MGE crossed my path, and I couldnt refuse the extra power. :!:

Luke
Let me put it this way, If you gave me 8K for my V6 i wil fit a 7mge.
Firstly it is a Toyota engine so the Hilux`s value will increase.
Secontly the 7mge is stronger and slightly lighter on feul.
Finaly it is a Toyota so you can relay on it !!!!! :D
