Hi there
Does anyone have some pictures of how the IFS steering box is attached in place of the SFA box in an hi steer cross over steering modification!
THANKS I am just struggling to figure out how this operates! :wth:

AFAIK it fits in the same place, same holes .... the pitman arm then tracks left and right instead of "push - pull".
There are threads here where this has been done ... sure there must be pics as well, if no-one posts any.

Its best to move it as far forward as you can, otherwise you run the risk of the 2 rods contacting under compression. Another good plan is to plate the frame. The chassis has little lateral strength and tends to crack over time.
One thing in particular to check is your oil pan clearance. There needs to be enough space below your engine to allow for compression. I can't remember what the 4y looks like underneath. I'm pretty sure its fine but just take a look to make certain.
A pretty good option is Hoppy's Lo steer modification. The geometry is almost identical except the tie rod is located under the springs instead of on top of them.

Only problem i can see with the lo steer is that the tie rod is a little exposed ( no different as it is now) but could have better protection above the leaf springs?

Yes the steering shaft has to lengthened. Same as when you do a body lift. Loosen fitting on splined section, pull out to the length you need, re-tighten the fitting. If necessary remove it completely and weld in a section of steel rod.
Protection is better on top but its a more costly conversion. The Lo steer conversion is all locally sourced parts.

BlumTRD sells the hi steer arms, they just bolt on. you just need to get the tierods.
give him a shout, I have been wanting a set for myself - just need to get on top of my cash (or lack thereof)
looks like really nice stuff - replica of the Ozzy snake racing kit

Just remember that they are LHD over there and so are their steering boxes, but the same principle applies to RHD.
