Post by RenierStrydom »

Hi I have a 1987 hilux with a 350 chevy V8 4x4 with a import diff

Is it advisable to fit a m77 diff with difflock or should i stick to the inport diff
or change to M77 diff
If someone could help me please

The old import diffs were strong and can handle a fair amount of abuse but they were not designed to handle a V8. The old Chevy V8 might not have as much torque as their modern day counterparts so the import diff will be able to handle it ... how long it last is a different matter and will depend on how you massage the noise pedal. Same goes for the gearbox.

Fitting lockers to the old diffs can be really expensive if you want a selectable locker (preferred), so It may be an option to look for a KZTE box and diff. Chances are that it will already have an OEM locker fitted (electrically actuated, which also makes it easy to hook up).
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
