KZ-TE Calipers vs SFA Calipers

Post by robvan87 »

Good day Everyone

I don't know whether this question has come up before, but what is the difference between the SFA caliper and the KZ caliper. Mine are 4pot calipers that are currently installed in the van. Will the KZ calipers and FJ discs make a big difference. Or should I just replace the booster and master with those of a KZ and the discs with those of a FJ. Or replace everything?

Looking forward to some expert knowledge!

Hi

Having just gone through the FJ discs and KZ calipers... Whao! Huge difference! Not perfect yet, so I am doing the KZ Booster and cylinder also.

SFA's don't brake...point.. the extra volume in the KZ calipers make a world of difference...

Hope you come right.

Thanks Otto. I can get KZ calipers locally for 850 each. Is that an acceptable price for second hand goods?

You can replace the brake master aswell. Will give more pressure to the brakes.

on the principles of hydraulics the small silinder is so posed to shoot against the pad so that you have a quicker response to breaking speed. Because of the small piston you have to break harder to have the same effect as two big pistons. I'm not saying that the kzte calipers won't work but I will start at the master. If the dia of the piston in the master is bigger than that of the sfa you should automatically have better brakes due to the fact that you generate more pressure onto the disk brakes.

That sounds like a descent explanation. Combine that with vented discs and you should be able to stop quicker with less brake failure. Thanks

Hi Oom Dawie

Kzte and 2.7 are 2 bolt and sfa are 4 bolt .

Booster mounts are the same .

I did a swop on a lux way back used a fj80 booster and master .

Rear drums on sfa are smaller than ifs import and local diffs

Looks exactly the same as the one on my SFA LTD (which I assume is standard) ..... has "1008" and "N56" stamped on the end, if that helps. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

It would be interesting to hear if any of the other guys with late model SFA's have the same. Further, would be good compare the specs / cylinder volume (bore and stroke) - might even amount to the same thing.

I am really keen on putting one of those in, will give the codes to my guy at Toyota tomorrow. The clearance between the intake bend and the brake pipes will be significantly increased!

If possible Mud Dog, can you send me your Vin number that would make it a lot easier, PM, then I will post the part number here

Interesting! Perhaps one of the cruiser models - might have to replace the booster to match vacuum volume as well if you go too big.
