Tapping into the harness

Post by niclemaitre »

Hi there

I'm looking to tap into the wiring harness under the bonnet to power a few relays but I only want the relays to have power when the ignition is turned on. Any advice on which wire to tap into? Ideally I'd like use one of the wires running into/out of the fuse box under the bonnet.

Thanks
Nic

IIRC The two big fuses are 'ignition' and 'motor' - I think 'motor' is for the engine and starter while 'ignition' powers everything else once the ignition is on. If you take off after the Ign fuse, you should be OK.

Thanks.

I should have mentioned that fuse box cover is missing, so which is the ignition fuse? The one closer to the fire wall or the one closer to the battery/radiator side

My diagram is also missing, but again IIRC the pink one is for the motor (closest to cab) - you could confirm by pulling it and checking if it starts. ;-)

Right now she wouldn't start if I pushed her down a hill, the entire dash and interior is out as well as much of the harness in an attempt to fix the rust holes in the firewall.

Hehe! The pink one is for the motor - I remember pulling that one to immobilise the old SFA, so connect after the yellow one. ;-)

Check the wiper motor there is one that onley gets power when the ignition is turned on. I always use that one much less effort. :D

The wiper motor one should also work well ... the wiper can draw a fair amount of juice so the fuse and wiring will certainly be able to handle a couple of relays that have very little draw. ;-)
