Extended front shackles.

Post by Riceburner »

Is anyone running extended front shackles (50mm longer) and had any negative effects?

The problem I'm aware of when extending the front shackles is that you'll have to move your axle forward and install a new draglink to accommodate for the lift. I believe there might be some issues with the angle and length of the front propshaft as well

Darryl

I have seen some luxes with just front extended shackles and it is not a very good mod by itself. As Cassie said the angle on the prop becomes gagga and your weels then also catch the wheel wells much quicker as longer shackles articulate more and the axle then moves back even more during articulation. The best one I saw was combined with an extended hanger which also moved the axle forward so the prop stays upright and the angle on the universal stays in limits, but that means lenghtening the propshaft, changing the torque rod and drag link.

Thys... I'm no expert on the issue but according to what I've learnt is that any high gained by changing of the suspension will cause a deterioration in steering stability. I mean that would be an engineering principal at work. The longer the shaft etc the more leverage there is which torque can be applied to. I don't know if that makes any sense what I just said but........ :D:

Darryl the drag link may be to log again if you move the axle. Its not a bad mod if you go all the way but just longer shackels by itself is not a great idea.

Me neither Cassie, but I suspected that height would affect steering stability.. especially at speed..  :)
