Correct POT size for Diktator STD

Post by Dadz Toy »

Has anybody used a POT on a Diktator Std?
I want to install a POT on mine but I don't know what resistance to use.

I'm hoping someone here has experience.

Thanks!

Didn't know one could use a POT on the standard ECU...

What do you want to adjust?

The mixture Stef, I'm flooding out on climbs in 2nd LR which is freaking annoying.

Sounds to me like your mapping is not so lekker...

I looked at the diagram again and there is no connection/input for a pot though so it might require a hack, but the AFR is not controlled in an analogue manner where one could hook the pot up the adjust Voltage / Current to manipulate an actuator.
I could be wrong but as far as I know the mixture controlled by measuring airflow/TPS & the adding fuel accordingly via the injectors.

If there is indeed a way I'd be interested to see how it works.

The Dicktator has a triple pin POT lead out of the back.
Then in Setup you can chose the staged increments of adjustment.
I have a nice little collection of pots ranging from 5k up to 2000k.
Question is what size do I use, I can't afford to blow anything!

Yep, that's a STD Dicktator ECU, saam generation that Dadz runs on.

If you really don't mind parting with it, I'll pay the Courier costs nê.
Would be great to have a guinea pig/back-up unit for Dadz.

Didn't know that... :shock2:

Edit: Downloaded a later manual and they show it on pin 8, but ja , no pot value or any spec of what input it is i.e 0-5V.
I would use one with a really high value with 2 extreme pins between 0 & 12V and the center/adj pin of the pot on pin 8.

Check the 3 wires you mentioned & measure if there is a neg and +12V, if so the that is how it should be connected

Thanks Stef!

I shall wait until the guinea pig ECU arrives 1st, then I'll give it a go!

Thanks again guys!

I loaded a copy of my map onto my spare Diktator, made sure the engine ran then started with my lowest value pot which is 1k.
The 1k worked beautifully and after a bit of experimental playing, I settled on a range of -12% to +12% fuelling.
I'm looking forward to seeing how what difference this will bring when leaning it back on the highway and riching up on steep ascents.
Main consideration right now is where to put the POT, I've got a pretty full dashboard!

Richard have you considered a "kick-down-switch" ?

Basically a switch under the accelerator pedal - when you go up a hill, floor it and the switch activate a resistor value for more fuel. Add a 10 second timer to get you up the hill or past the truck, then auto go down to the econo setting.

With maybe a manual over ride for when you are in the mood to burn some rubber .....

Interesting idea Chris!

I just found a foot switch in my electric bits bag, might give it some careful consideration nê.
