5.29 diff

Post by Johann123 »

Hi Guys

New to the forum and first post.
I am planning on building a Lexus v8 into my 2003 2,7 4x4 hilux.
I want to fit 35" tyres and want to go to 5.29 diff ratios - question is, where in SA can I get these?
Also, just something I need some advice or opinions on - I spoke to a few of the guys that bring the Lexus motors in. Some of the mentioned that they bring in the Surf/4Runner autobox with transfer case. The also get these with a transfer case that has a open diff - giving you the option for open diff 4x4 on tar(works almost like a Pajero box)
I am of the opinion that this will make for one good tow vehicle for the boat. ( I used to to with a Discovey and permanent 4x4 just feels so much more stable when towing)
Any of you guys have any experience with these Surf/4Runner transfer cases. Are the ouput shafts the same side as a normal Hilux TC?
A lot of questions from a newbie, sorry guys.
Thanks
Johan

Welcome to the forum Johan. The surf/ 4Runner is in essence a Hilux without the loadbin. Depending on the size of the motor I believe the gearbox should fit. Maybe give ToyX4 a shout. I believe he is bringing in or know where to get a complete front part of a Lexus with engine and gearbox with all electronics.
To God be the glory

Thanks CasKru
I will get in contact with him. For me the biggest issue is the diff ratio at the moment. I will most likely get a 4" suspension lift in from Australia to fit the 35s, but to make the vehicle useful for everyday use, the ratios will have to be changed.
I think the Surf/4Runner transfercase is a nice to have if it can be mated with the diffs.
