Elektriese vensters mod

Post by vastrap »

Does any 2005 Hilux owner out there find it irretating that the electric windows only work when the ignition key is fully on? Have anybody already modified his vehicle so that you can operate the windows when the ignition is on the first click? I plan to mod mine and would appreciate any help from somebody with more wiring experience.

Why do you want to turn to 1st click to open windows ? Rather have 12v there all the time to open and close without key in ign.

Wire a 12v supply via a fuse to each window switch.

Remove the 12v supply on the one end of the switch and tape it up with insulation tape, then solder the new supply to it. Each switch should have 2 wires. 1 will have 12 v on it if you turn ignition but do not operate the switch. The other wire should go to the motor.

You will now always have 12v on the switch to open and close windows without turning ignition.

To do this, I would use the 12v to the indicators because they flikker when alarm is activated.
Install a 12v timer relay somewhere under the dash. This timer will be a delay of timer and set the time to the time it takes the window to travel from fully open to fully close and add maybe a second or two.

The 12v from the flikker (or siren or horn) will start the timer and delay it to go off untill the time runs out. Then wire 12v via a fuse to each window motor via a NO (normally open) contact. While timer is on, it will close windows.

I like your idea, just one question:

What if some of the windows are closed already - you would be running all the motors for the same time (according to the timer circuit timer) to maybe close one (or none) windows when the flicker lights trigger the timer when you set the alarm. I would think that this idea would need some sort of limit switch, so that only the open window(s) motor(s) will work in this state and not all motors?

Just my 2c worth - let me know what you think.

One needs to look at how it is wired and see what stops the power to the motor when it reaches the top. The one I opened a few years back on a Sani had a bi-metalic switch in series with the motor and switch, just after the switch. As soon as the window reaches the top, the motor draws more current and the bi-metalic switch opens up, breaking the circuit even if the switch is still pressed.

On the timer mod you can connect the the 12v from the N/O contact just after the switch but before the bi-metalic switch, thus the bi-metalic switch will still stop the window. But as I said, one needs to expose the circuit and see how it currently operates. When I had the idea, I had the Sani window circuit in mind. I will see over the weekend how the Hilux one works and see if my idea will work.
