HID kit on KZTE Question (UPDATED)

Post by morganharris »

Hey guys

Just installed the HID kit on my Lux. Looks amazing, really...

Only issue is that my low beams are perfect but my brights are way to heigh. I do have a hunting rig on the back which sags the back a little. But what confuses me is that the low is perfect for what i want, so if i adjust the Hi beams to shine perfect then the low beams will shine too low as this is the H4 Hi/Low beam globes.

Any ideas on what I can do to adjust these lights?
The instruction manual says nothing.

Morgan if you may please post pics of the two lamps, it may just help us to help you  , unless if someone else has gone over that bridge already.

I would think the filaments of either lamp must be postioned in the same place, difficult to tell with out pics,

Here are some pics of the HID's in the headlight.

Today someone told me that the plastic cover inside the headlight is what is stopping my brights from shining correctly. So what we did is remove the plastic cover on only the right headlight and leave the left stock. I want to see tonight if this makes a difference.

Mark,

not a stupid question at all - I have come across some of these kits where the high and low beam wires were switched, and it caused major headaches when trying to install!

Good Day Morgan

I also drive a KZTE with very poor standard lights and did a Osram HID Conversion but unfortunatly i am sitting with exact same problem as you. I would also like to see if there is a cure for our prblem.I added two spotlights to the bullbar and two to the rollbar but when I use them all for more than 30 minutes and I switch of my KZ the battery is flat and I would rather date my ex mother in law than push start my KZ ............. :thumbdown:In my case we do a lot of work in the veld at night so good headlights is very important to me.

I removed my HID and had Nightbreakers installed as my H4 Headlights as well as my spotlights. To me it looks very similar to the HID's, but i do see that a bulb alignment is needed as my brights shine in the trees. So first thing Monday I will have them aligned and post more pics. Spotlights work great with Nightbreakers.

For me in the hunting industy driving with clients at night many a time, lights are very important. So i am thinking of trying more options on globes and posting them here. I am planning on ordering a set of Nightbreakers Plus from Autostyle and testing them against the standard Nightbreaker.

I am also going to purchase a set of Narva H4 110/100W 12V, RANGE POWER RALLY (RPR) TWIN SET WHITE BULB from iwarehouse: http://www.iwarehouse.co.za/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Let me know what other options I can try as I see a KZTE shape bakkie needs more wattage to give the same effect as the newer trucks with better reflectors.

Keep in mind you wiring is designed to handle 55/60 watt, also the reflector and holder. Start by upgrading the wiring his in itself will produce more current to your existing lights std. 55/60w system. With a 12v setup this is very important. There is a thread here on the forum somewhere.

With 110/100w over time you will risk deforming / melting the plastic reflector due to the heat produced by the lamp. This has been tested over years in household products like the old plasitic fittings designed to use 60w halogen bulbs, where people use 100w bulbs and the lampholder and fitting deteriorates.

Another question, looking at your pics, it does not appear that your headlight reflectors are standard, but rather after market? Are they original Toyota reflectors?

Most definitely! All my vehicles still have the "older" all-glass headlights and reflectors, so this is no problem for me. But for the newer plastic stuff, stay far away from anything stronger than 55/60W globes.

OOMS

Thanks for that info, I am not sure if my Headlights are original or aftermarket. I bought the bakkie like this. How do I test/know which is which? And where do you recommend I get originals from is these are Aftermarket? (Toyota themselves?)

I read the post and re-wiring the system and adding a relay sounds like my next step, I will then keep the nightbreakers in and test it after this setup. I am getting back from my next hunt on the 26th and will have the job done by then.

My only concern is my headlights that are currently in. Not sure what I should do regarding that?

From the pics they look like after market headlights and as you can prob gather the fake or look alike head lights are not as good ad the original. Yes, the only way I know of it to get the original lights would be from Toyota. Upgrading the wiring would be my first step also  And stick with 55/60 watt lamps, pref. nightbreakers or similar !

First thing I do on the 26th is get Original Headlights, go to an Auto Electrician and get the wiring redone. When im done I will post some pics for you.

Once question, when talking about re-wiring, are we talking about bigger/thicker wires?
